  • The Department of Player Safety has fined Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara $5000 for cross checking forward Brendan Gallagher of the Montreal Canadiens.

In Buffalo the Sabres would celebrate 2000’s night as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in the first period Nathan Gerbe would strike first for the Jackets to take the 1-0 lead. In the second period Boone Jenner would score to grow Columbus’ lead to two, but Jack Eichel would score to bring the Sabres back within one. Then in the third period Victor Olofsson and Evan Rodrigues would score to give the Sabres the 3-2 lead. But Markus Nutivaara would score to tie the game at three. In overtime Olofsson would score his second of the game to give the Sabres the 4-3 victory.

In Toronto the Maple Leafs would host the Dallas Stars, and in the first period Denis Gurianov would score early for the quick 1-0 lead for the Stars. Then in the second period Radek Faksa would score for Dallas, but Auston Matthews would strike to get the Leafs on the board. In the third period Zach Hyman would score for the Leafs, but Tyler Seguins early third period tally would give the Stars the 3-2 victory.

In Tampa Bay the Lightning would face off with the Edmonton Oilers, and after a scoreless first period Pat Maroon would score for Tampa to take the 1-0 ead. However, Caleb Jones would score to tie the game, but Yanni Gourde would score to retake the lead for the Lightning. Then in the third period Cedric Paquette would score to give the Lightning the 3-1 victory.

In Florida the Philadelphia Flyers would be unrelenting against the Panthers. In the first period the Flyers would get goals from James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Pitlick, and Nicolas Aube-Kubelto take the 3-0 lead. Then in the second period Scott Laughton would score to grow the lead to four. In the third period the Panthers would get goals from Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov, but goals from Sean Couturier and Robert Hagg would give the Flyers the 6-2 victory.

In the second period Oliver Ekman-Larsson would score for the Coyotes, but in the third period despite getting a goal from Joel Oesterle, Ottawa would get the game winning goal from Nick Paul to take the 3-2 victory.

In Nashville the Predators would white wash the New York Islanders as Craig Smith would net the hat trick, and Mattias Ekholm and Rocco Grimaldi would score to give the Predators the 5-0 victory.

In Minnesota the Wild would host the New York Rangers, and in the first period Artemi Panarin would score for the Rangers, but goals from Ryan Donato and Jonas Brodin would give the Wild the 2-1 lead. In the second period Jordan Greenway would score to grow the Wild’s lead to two, and in the third period Pavel Buchnevich and Mika Zibanejad would score to tie the game at three and send the game to overtime. However, the extra five minutes would not be enough as Artemi Panarin would score in the shootout to give the Rangers the 4-3 win.

In Vegas we would have a wild one between the Golden Knights and the St. Louis Blues. In the first period both Zach Stanford and Max Pacioretty would both score a pair of goals for their teams, but a tally from MacKenzie MacEachern would give  the Blues the 3-2 lead. In the second period Sanford would complete the hat trick, Jonathan Marchessault would score to keep the game within one. Then in the third period Sanford would score his fourth of the game, but goals from Nate Schmidt and Alex Tuch would tie the game at five. In overtime Marchessault would net his second of the game to secure the Golden Knights the 6-5 victory.

 

Calgary Flames v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

In Anaheim the Calgary Flames would roast the Ducks as Elias Lindholm, Mikael Backlund (two goals), Oliver Kylington, and Mark Jankowski(two goals) would all score to give the Flanes the 6-0 victory.

  • The Washington Capitals announced that they have re-assigned defenseman Martin Fehervary to Hershey of the AHL.

 

  • In NHL Injury news it was announced by Ken Holland of the Edmonton Oilers that Connor McDavid will miss 2-3 weeks due to a quad injury, and per Bob McKenzie of TSN Montreal Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber will be missing the Canadiens upcoming road trip, and outside of that information is on lockdown at the moment.

 

  • The Department of Player Safety has announced that they have fined forward Antoine Roussel of the Vancouver Canucks $5000, the maximum under the CBA, for slashing Nashville Predator defenseman Yannick Weber on Monday night.

Then in the third period Sam Reinhart would score for the Sabres to take the 3-2 victory.

Then in overtime Jakob Chychrun would strike, but the goal would be disallowed after a review which would give the Leafs the opportunity to win the game with a Kasperi Kapanen tally for the 3-2 victory.

However, in the second period the Flyers would respond with goals from Travis Konecny and Robert Hagg to bring them within one. Then in the third periodSean Couturier would score to tie the game at three, but goals by Ryan Pulock and Leo Komarov to give the Islanders the 5-3 victory.

In the first period both teams would trade tallies as Jamie Benn would open the scoring for the Stars, and Sebatian Aho would tie the game at one for the Hurricanes. In the second period Denis Gurianov and Benn’s second of the game would give the Stars the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period Benn would complete the hat trick to win the game 4-1 for the Stars.

NWHL News:

  • The NWHL announced that Buffalo Beauts forward Brooke Stacey will make her final appearances of the season at this weekend’s NWHL All Star Weekend after announcing that Brooke and her partner Dylan Smith are expecting their first child.
    • Cailey Hutchison of the Metropolitan Riveters, and Brooke’s best friend, will be joining Team Packer in Brooke’s place.

 

  • The NWHL also announced that they will be teaming up with the New York Rangers on Wednesday, Feb. 5th to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

 

 

NHL News:
