NHL News and Notes from Tuesday, February 4th, 2020

 

NWHL News:

  • The NWHL announced that Buffalo Beauts forward Brooke Stacey will make her final appearances of the season at this weekend’s NWHL All Star Weekend after announcing that Brooke and her partner Dylan Smith are expecting their first child.
    • Cailey Hutchison of the Metropolitan Riveters, and Brooke’s best friend, will be joining Team Packer in Brooke’s place.

 

  • The NWHL also announced that they will be teaming up with the New York Rangers on Wednesday, Feb. 5th to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

 

 

NHL News:

  • The Washington Capitals recalled defenseman Martin Fehervary from Hershey of the AHL.

 

  • The Capitals also recalled goaltender Vitek Vanecek from Hershey of the AHL.

 

  • Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks would record his 1500th career NHL Point in the Sharks 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Vancouver Canucks v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

In Boston the Bruins would blank the Vancouver Canucks as the Bruins would get goals from Charlie Coyle, Brad Marchand, David Krejci, and Karson Kuhlman to secure the 4-0 victory.

 

Colorado Avalanche v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p EST Start Time

In Buffalo the Colorado Avalanche would smother the Sabres. In the first period Sam Reinhart would score for the Sabres, but goals from Samuel Girard and Andre Burakovsky would give the Avalanche the 2-1 lead. Then in the second period the Avalanche would get goals from Nazem Kadri, Nakita Zadorov, Valeri Nichushkin, and Mokko Rantanen to take the 6-1 victory.

 

Vegas Golden Knights v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p EST Start Time

In Tampa Bay the Lightning would host the Vegas Golden Knights, and in the first period the Knights would strike with a William Carrier tally, but goals from Braden Point and Tyler Jonson would give Tampa the 2-1 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Paul Stastny would score for the Knights, but goals from Steven Stamkos and Alex Killorn would give the Lightning the 4-2 victory.

 

Montreal Canadiens v. New Jersey Devils – 7p EST Start Time

Scott recaps the New Jersey Devils wild loss in a shootout 5-4 to the Montreal Canadiens.

 

Dallas Stars v. New York Islanders – 7p EST Start Time

On Long Island the Dallas Stars would continue their New York/New Jersey trip as they take on the New York Islanders. In the first period Anthony Beauvillier would score for the Islanders, but Denis Gurianov would tie the game at one. In the second period Jason Dickinson would score for the Stars, and Derick Brassard would tie the game back up at two. Then in the third period John Klingberg would score for the Stars and Mathew Barzal for the Islanders which would then be followed by Beauvilliers second of the game in overtime to give the Islanders the 4-3 victory.

 

Los Angeles Kings v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

After a lackluster 40 minutes for the Washington Capitals, stellar goaltending from Braden Holtby and Alex Ovechkin’s natural hat trick give the Capitals the 4-2 victory.

 

Florida Panthers v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p EST Start Time

In Columbus it would be a pure goaltending duel between Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers and Elvis Merzlikins of the Blue Jackets as they would play shutout hockey through 60 minutes of regulation only to have Zach Werenski score the game winner in overtime for the Blue Jackets.

 

Anaheim Ducks v. Ottawa Senators – 7:30p EST Start Time

In Ottawa the Senators would play host to the Anaheim Ducks. In the first period Nick Ritchie would get the Ducks on the board first with his fifth of the season. Then in the second period Ondrej Kase would score for the Ducks and Drake Batherson for the Senators. In the third period Artem Anisimov would tie the game at two to send the game into overtime for the Senators. After the extra frame the game would require the shootout which would see Rickard Rakell seal the deal for the Ducks with the 3-2 victory.

 

Carolina Hurricanes v. St. Louis Blues – 8p EST Start Time

In St. Louis the Blues would host the Carolina Hurricanes, and in the first period Sammy Blais would open the scoring for the Blues. In the second period Sebastian Aho would score for the Hurricanes, but the Blues would get goals from Zach Sanford and Colton Parayko, and a pair of goals from Brayden Schenn to take the 5-1 lead. Then in the third period Brock McGinn and Martin Necas would score for Carolina, but Sanford’s second of the game would secure the 6-3 victory for the Blues.

 

Nashville Predators v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p EST Start Time

In Winnipeg the Nashville Predators would come ground the Jets. In the first period both teams would trade goals as Mason Appleton would score for the Jets and Nick Bonino would score for the Predators, but after a scoreless second and third period this game would require overtime. In the extra frame Mikael Granlund would net his 11th of the season to give the Predators the 2-1 victory.

 

Chicago Blackhawks v. Minnesota Wild – 8p EST Start Time

In Minnesota the Wild would host the Chicago Blackhawks. After a scoreless first period Kevin Fiala would net a pair of goals to give the Wild the 2-0 lead. Then int eh third period Adam Boqvist and Olli Maatta would score for the Blackhawks to force overtime which would see Matt Dumba score to give the Wild the 3-2 victory.

 

San Jose Sharks v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

In Calgary the Flames would host the San Jose Sharks, and after a scoreless first period Johnny Gaudreau would score on the powerplay for the Flames, but goals from Brent Burns and Evander Kane would give the Sharks the 2-1 lead. then in the third period Kevin Labanc would score to give the Sharks the 3-1 victory.

 

Edmonton Oilers v. Arizona Coyotes – 9p EST Start Time

In Arizona the Edmonton Oilers would come to the desert to face the Coyotes. After a scoreless first period the Coyotes would get goals from Conor Garland and Lawson Crouse to take the 2-0 lead. Then in the third period Christian Dvorak would seal the deal as the Coyotes would go on to win 3-0.
