Isles Win Series, Will Play Bruins In Second Round

The Islanders won a very close Game 5 against the Penguins to take a 3-2 series lead heading back to Long Island. The Islanders with a victory tonight would advance to the next round. The Penguins will be working to try and force a Game 7.

Here is how the two teams would line up:

The game started off well for the Penguins, as they would nab the first goal of the game. Jeff Carter would score the goal, it’s his fourth tally of the series. A beautiful streak, up the left side of the ice, he would cut to the middle and slot the puck between the legs of Sorokin. The assists on the play came from Kasperi Kapanen and Jason Zucker.

Four minutes later, the Islanders would answer right back and tie the game up. The goal was scored by Anthony Beauvillier. A nice cut up the middle, and a beautiful backhand shot that beat Jarry over the glove side. The assists on the play came from Brock Nelson and Josh Bailey.

The Penguins would retake the lead six minutes later. Jake Guentzel would tally his first goal of the series, via the power play. Guentzel was in the middle, and one timed the puck towards the net, it would go off Pulock and in the net. The assists on the play came from Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin.

The lead wouldn’t last very long, as the Islanders would tie the game up quickly. A shot from JG Pageau was stopped by Jarry and the rebound was put home by Kyle Palmieri, his third goal of the series. The period would end with the Penguins and the Islanders both tied at 2.

In the second period, the Penguins would once again get off to a fast start, scoring two minutes into the period. The goal coming from Jason Zucker, his second goal of the series. A shot from the point, that was tipped in front of the net and would go past Sorokin. The assists on the play came from Cody Ceci, and Evgeni Malkin.

Seven minutes later, the Islanders would once again tie it up. A great slap pass from Josh Bailey would wind up on the stick of Brock Nelson who got it past Jarry and in the net. The other assist on the play would come from Anthony Beauvillier.

13 seconds later, the Islanders would take their first lead of the game. A slap shot from the point would beat Jarry on the glove side. The goal would come from Ryan Pulock, with the assists on the play coming from JG Pageau and Travis Zajac.

Two minutes later, the Islanders would get their third unanswered goal of the period, and would establish a two goal lead. The goal being scored by Brock Nelson, his third tally of the series. The shot from the slot managed to get through two Penguin defenders, and squeak its way past Jarry. The Islanders would take a 5-3 lead heading into the third period.

There would be no scoring in the third period as the Islanders would play lockdown defense and stifle any Penguin attempt at a comeback. The Islanders would win the series in six games and move on to play the Boston Bruins in the next round.
