If you thought Game 3 was pivotal in the series, there is no game bigger than this Game 5, with the series having become a best of 3. Here is how the two teams would line up:
It would take just before the halfway mark in the first period before we would get the game’s first goal. The goal coming from Evgeni Malkin on the power play. His short side shot beat Sorokin over the blocker for his first goal of the series. The assists on the play coming from Kris Letang and Bryan Rust.
A late goal in the period would see the Islanders tie it up, the goal scored by Anthony Beauvillier. A beautiful drive up the middle, beating Guentzel and ultimately would go top shelf to beat Jarry over his blocker. The assists on the play came from Josh Bailey and Nick Leddy.
In the second period, the Penguins would re-establish their lead. The goal coming from Bryan Rust, his second point of the game. There were two drop passes on the right side of the offensive zone, the first one from Kris Letang, and the second from Sidney Crosby. Rust would take the slap shot from the point beating Sorokin. The Penguins would take a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
In the third period, the Islanders would tie the game up for the second time. The goal coming from Jordan Eberle off a beautiful pass from Leo Komorov; which had Jarry fallen on the ground, giving Eberle the wide open net to deposit the goal. The other assist on the play came from JG Pageau. With the goal, game five would go to overtime.
Then 51 seconds into double overtime it would be Josh Bailey with his third of the Playoffs to give the Islanders the 3-2 victory and 3-2 series lead over the Penguins.
