NWHL News – Sully Back with Pride

Today in the National Women’s Hockey League the Boston Pride continued re-signing their core.

 

Sully Back with Pride

  • The Boston Pride have re-signed forward Tori Sullivan for the 2020-21 season.

  • Sullivan, entering her second season with the Pride, played in all 24 regular season games last season and recorded 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points.
  • Sullivan also lead the league with 5 powerplay goals, tied with Taylor Accursi (BUF) and Madison Packer (MET).

NWHL News – Curmova Returns

Today in the National Women’s Hockey League the Buffalo Beauts bring back another core piece.

 

Curmova Returns

  • The Buffalo Beauts have announced that they have re-signed defender Lenka Curmova for the 2020-21 season.

  • Curmova, a member of the Slovakian National Team, returns for her second season with the Beauts.
  • In her rookie campaign last season, Curmova would tally three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 23 games.
  • Curmova would also score the Beauts first goal of the 2019-20 season, and making her the first Slovakian born player to reckrd a point and a goal in the NWHL.
  • Curmova was also an All Star last season.

NWHL News – Rivs, Whale, and Beauts Stock Up

Today in the NWHL the Beauts re-signed forward Cassidy MacPherson, the Whale signed a goalie, and the Riveters add a defender.

 

MacPherson Returns to Beauts

  • The Beauts have re-signed forward Cassidy MacPherson for ghe 2020-21 season.

  • MacPherson played in all 24 regular season games last season for the Beauts.
  • In her rookie campaign MacPherson would register five goals and seven assists for 12 points.
  • In the final six games of the 2019-20 season MacPherson would record five points to help guide the Beauts to the playoffs.

 

Ives on the Whale

  • The Connecticut Whale have announced that they have signed goaltender Abbie Ives for the 2020-21 season.

  • Ives becomes the second goalie to sign with the Whale for the upcoming season joining returning goalie Brooke Wolejko.
  • Ives recorded 17 wins, a 1.91 GAA, and a .927 save percentage last season with Quinnipiac.

 

Rivs Add Some Czech-ing to Blue Line

  • The Metropolitan Riveters announced they have signed defender Sammy Kolowrat for the 2020-21 season.

  • Kolowrat, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, played four seasons at the University of Vermont where she would play 141 games.
  • Kolowrat is also a member of the Czech National Team.

Whale Sign Goaltender

News from The Pod today as the Connecticut Whale have signed their second goaltender this offseason. Abbie Ives will be joining the Whale!

The goalie from Bedford Hills, NY played 4 years of college hockey at Quinnipiac University. Where in those 4 years, she never had a GAA higher than 2.00 and never had a Save Percentage lower than .920!

She’ll join Brooke Wolejko as the new goalie pairing heading into the season. Welcome to The Pod!

NWHL News – Selander Returns

Today in the NWHL the Boston Pride re-signed their number one goaltender

 

Selander Returns

  • The Boston Pride re-signed goaltender Lovisa Selander for the 2020-21 season.

  • Selander, the 2019-20 NWHL Goaltender of the Year, recorded a league record 17 wins in her rookie season.
  • Selander also led the league with a 1.71 GAA and a .941 save percentage, and ended the season with a 130:20 shutout streak.

 

Coaching Announcements

  • The Metropolitan Riveters announced that original captain Ashley Johnston will be joining Ivo Mocek’s coaching staff for the 2020-21 season.
    • Johnston led the 2018 Riveters to the Isobel Cup championship.

 

  • The Buffalo Beauts announced that head coach Pete Perram will be returning for his second season behind the bench.

Toronto becomes the Six(th) with New Team Name

Big, huge, exciting news from the NWHL today! The newly formed Toronto team announced their name today and introduced themselves to the hockey world!

It would appear that the Toronto Six will sport a red and gold color scheme. It’s in their logo; however, it remains to be seen whether that will be on a jersey though. The jerseys will be unveiled within the coming weeks.

As for the name, it draws inspiration from the city; as it’s a nickname for the city of Toronto.

NWHL News – A Toronto Signing Spree

Today in the NWHL Toronto added a total of players for their inaugural season.

 

Grant-Mentis Signs with Toronto

  • Toronto announced today that they have signed forward Mikyla Grant-Mentis for the 2020-21 season.

  • Grant-Mentis, who finished the 2019-20 season with Buffalo, is the all time points (117) and assists (61) leader at Merrimack.
  • In four games with the Beauts, Grant-Mentis would earn VEDA Player of the Week honors and record a goal and an assist in the playoffs.

 

Toronto Add Four More

  • Toronto also announced the signings of goaltender Samantha Ridgewell, and forwards Jenna McParland, Amy Curlew, and Natalie Marcuzzi.

  • Ridgewell was the number one goalie for Djurgardens IF of the SDHL, and recorded a 2.03 GAA and a .920 save percentage in 22 games played.
  • McParland is a 2018 Clarkson Cup winner with the Markham Thunder and is an all zone forward threat.
  • Curlew was the eighth overall pick in the 2020 draft, and was a standout forward at Cornell.
  • Marcuzzi was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, and guided RMU to three straight regular season titles.

NWHL News – Boulier Returns!

Today in the NWHL The Minnesota Whitecaps re-signed a Defender of the Year finalist, and some sad news regarding the 2020 Isobel Cup Championship game.

 

Boulier Returns to Caps

  • The Minnesota Whitecaps have announced the re-signing of top defender Amanda Boulier for the 2020-21 season.

 

  • Boulier, a 2020 NWHL Defender of the Year Finalist, recorded six goals and 21 assists for 27 points during the 2019-20 season.
  • Boulier is also a three time NWHL All Star, a 2019 Isobel Cup Champion, and was named on of the Fan’s Three Stars for the 2019-20 season.
  • Boulier will be entering her fourth NWHL season, and third with Minnesota.

 

2020 Isobel Cup Final Canceled

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the NWHL announced today that the 2020 Isobel Cup Championship game between the Boston Pride and Minnesota Whitecaps has officially been canceled.

  • Originally slated for Friday, March 13th, 2020 in Boston, the league along with the NWHLPA, players, coaches, and leadership of both the Pride and Whitecaps made the difficult decsion to cancel the game.

NWHL News – Pride Sign Another Pick

Today in the NWHL the Boston Pride would sign another 2020 Draft Pick as the build for the 2020-21 season continues.

 

Pride Sign Vanisova

  • The Boston Pride have announced that they have signed the 12th overall pick, forward Tereza Vanisova.

  • Vanisova, a native of Strakonice, Czech Republic, was a standout forward at the University of Maine.
  • While at Maine, Vanisova would record 63 goals and 66 assists for 129 points in 129 career games.
  • Vanisova is also a member of the Czech Republic National Team, and has been since she was 13 years old.

NWHL News – A Trio of Signings

Today in the NWHL the signings continued as the Metropolitan Riveters signed their third round pick, the Connecticut Whale signed RMU’s captain, and Toronto signs the second player to come over from the SDHL.

 

Riveters Sign Third Round Pick

  • The Metropolitan Riveters signed goaltender Tera Hofmann for the 2020-21 season.

  • Hofmann, the third round pick for the Riveters, was a standout for Yale where she would record a 2.64 GAA in her four years there.
  • Hofmann also in her Yale career posted a career .914 save percentage, and six shutouts.

 

Whale Sign RMU’s LaGue

  • The Connecticut Whale have signed former RMU captain defender Maggie LaGue.

  • LaGue, the Whale’s 22nd overall pick in the 2018 draft, holds the RMU records for assists (79) and points (92) by a defender.
  • LaGue would average 22 points per season in ger four years at Robert Morris University.

 

Toronto Adds Offense

  • Toronto has signed forward Brooke Boquist for the 2020-21 season.

  • Boquist, who has spent the last two seasons in the SDHL, becomes the eighth playerto join the newest franchise in the NWHL.
  • In 41 career games with Leksands IF (2019-20) and MODO Hockey (2018-19), Boquist would record 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points.
