Game Recaps:

Edmonton Oilers v. Boston Bruins – 1p EST Start Time

In an early afternoon matinee The Boston Bruins would host the Edmonton Oilers. In the first period David Pastrnak would strike on the powerplay to take the 1-0 lead. However, the Oilerss would respond with four goals in the final forty minutes to defeat the Bruins 4-1. Gaetan Haas, Darnell Nurse, Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl would all score in the victory.

 

San Jose Sharks v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 1p EST Start Time

In Columbus the Blue Jackets would play host to the San Jose Sharks. After a scoreless first period Barclay Goodrow would strike to break the scoreless tie, but Zach Werenski would tie the game at one only to see Evander Kane retake the one goal lead for the Sharks. Then in the third period Werenski would score his second of the game for the Jackets, but it would be a Kevin Labanc tally to give the Sharks the 3-2 victory.

 

Florida Panthers v. Buffalo Sabres – 1p EST Start Time

In Buffalo the Sabres would face off with the Florida Panthers. In the first period Henri Jokiharju would score his fourth of the season to give the Sabres the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Conor Sheary and Sam Reinhart would strike to give Buffalo the three goal lead. In the third period the Panthers would mount a comeback of sorts as Mike Matheson and Evgenii Dadonov would score, but it would not be enough as the Sabres would go on to win 3-2.

 

Winnipeg Jets v. Minnesota Wild – 2p EST Start Time

In Minnesota the Wild would play host to the Winnipeg Jets, and in the first period the Wild would strike first with a Marcus Foligno tally. Then in the second period Mark Scheifele would score on the powerplay to tie the game at one. In the third period Blake Wheeler would score on the powerplay for the Jets, and Luke Kunin would tally for the Wild as the game would remain tied heading into overtime. In the extra frame Eric Staal would strike on the powerplay to give the Wild the 3-2 victory.

 

St. Louis Blues v. Vegas Golden Knights – 4p EST Start Time

In Vegas the St. Louis Blues would come to town to take on the Golden Knights. In the first period Alex Pietrangelo (PPG), Jaden Schwartz, and Oskar Sundqvist would all tally to give the Blues the 3-0 lead. Then in the second period Ryan Reaves and Paul Stastny would score to get Vegas on the board and bring the Knights within one. Then in the second period Nicolas Roy and Reilly Smith would score to take the 4-3 lead, but David Perron would strike on the powerplay to tie the game at four for the Blues and send the game to overtime. In the extra frame Chandler Stephenson would score his eighth of the season to give the Golden Knights the 5-4 victory.

 

New York Islanders v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

In Toronto the Maple Leafs play host to the New York Islanders, and after a scoreless first period the Leafs would get on the board first with a Pierre Engvall tally, and Auston Matthews would net his 28th of the season to make it 2-0 for the Leafs. In the third period Zach Hyman would score his tenth of the season to give the Leafs the 3-0 victory.

 

Pittsburgh Penguins v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

In Montreal the Canadiens would take on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and in the first period Artturi Lehkonen would open the scoring for the Canadiens, but Zach Aston-Reese would tie the game back up at one. Then in the second period Lehkonen would score his second of the game to retake the lead for Montreal. In the third period Bryan Rust would tie the game at two and send the game to overtime. In the extra frame Branden Tanev would score to give the Penguins the 3-2 overtime victory.

 

Tampa Bay Lightning v. Ottawa Senators – 7p EST Start Time

In Ottawa the Tampa Bay Lightning would come to town to play against the Senators. After a scoreless first period Chris Tierney would open up the scoring for the Senators with his sixth of the season, but Tampa would strike with back to back goals from Carter Verhaeghe and Kevin Shattenkirk to take the 2-1 lead. However, Jean-Gabriel Pageau would strike on the powerplay to tie the game at two, and Mark Borowiecki would score with nine seconds left in the period to take the 3-2 lead. In the third period Brayden Point would score his 16th of the season to tie the game at three, Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn would strike to give the Lightning the 5-3 victory.

 

Colorado Avalanche v. New Jersey Devils – 7p EST Start Time

The New Jersey Devils would play host to the Colorado Avalanche, and Scott has your recap on this Devils 5-2 loss.

 

Philadephia Flyers v. Arizona Coyotes – 8p EST Start Time

In Arizona the Coyotes would host the Philadelphia Flyers for another Kachina Saturday. In the first period it would be all Coyotes as Brad Richardson, Joel Oesterle, and Clayton Keller would all score to take the 3-0 lead. Then in the second period Lawson Crouse would score his ninth of the season to grow the coyotes lead to four. In the third period the Flyers would get goals from Tyler Pitlick and Justin Braun, but Keller would score his second of the game and Derek Stepan would score to give the Coyotes the 6-2 victory.

 

New York Rangers v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

For 90’s Night in Vancouver the Canucks would rock the beautiful Black Skate jerseys against the New York Rangers to honor the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals run they had, which would see the Rangers win the Cup in seven games. In the first period the Canucks would be buzzing and Antoine Roussel would score 80 seconds into the game to give the Canucks the fast 1-0 lead. However, Pavel Buchnevich would strike for his seventh of the season to tie the game at one for the Rangers. Then late in the third period Tyler Myers would net his fourth of the season to give the Canucks the 2-1 victory.

 

Nashville Predators v. Los Angeles Kings – 1030p EST Start Time

In Los Angeles the Kings would host the Nashville Predators, and in the first period Rocco Grimaldi would score for the Predators to break the scoreless tie and take the 1-0 lead. Then Ryan Johansen would score to grow their lead to two to end the first period. In the second period Alex Iafallo would strike on the powerplay for the Kings to draw within one. However, in the third period the Predators would get goals from Yakov Trenin and Craig Smith to secure the 4-1 victory.

News:

  • The Montreal Canadiens confirmed that forward Brendan Gallagher is out indefinitely due to a concussion.

 

  • The Canadiens also make a pair of trades. The first one being with the Ottawa Senators as they trade defenseman Mike Reilly to the Senators for forward Andrew Sturtz and a 2021 5th Round Pick.

 

  • Then next up the Canadiens would trade San Jose’s 2020 4th Round Pick to the Buffalo Sabres for defenseman Marco Scandella.

 

  • The Sabres would then flip the draft pick they just received from the Canadiens as they would send it to Calgary for forward Michael Frolik.

Columbus Blue Jackets v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

In the first full night of NHL action in the new year we would see the Boston Bruins host the Columbus Blue Jackets. After a scoreless first period the Bruins would strike with a David Pastrnak tally on the powerplay. Then in the third period Sonny Milano would strike to tie the game at one for the Jackets, and send the game to overtime. In the opening minute of the extra frame Pierre-Luc Dubois would strike for his 14th of the season and secure the 2-1 victory for the Blue Jackets.

After a scpreless second period Sam Reinhart would score his 13th of the season to tie the game at two, and in overtime Jack Eichel’s penalty shot goal would complete the comeback and give the Sabres the 3-2 victory.

All of the action would take place in the first period as Anthony Cirelli as would open the scoring for Tampa Bay, but Jeff Petry would strike to tie the game at one. However, Nikita Kucherov would score to secure the Lightning the 2-1 victory.

In Pittsburgh the San Jose Sharks would come to town to take on the Penguins. In the first period the Sharks would get goals from Tomas Hertl and Logan Couture, but the Penguins would get a lone goal from Patric Hornqvist as the Sharks took the 2-01 lead into the first intermission. Then in the second period Hornqvist would score his second of the game to tie the game at two. After a scoreless third period this game would go to overtime and Brent Burns would strike on the powerplay to give teh Sharks the 3-2 victory.

In Ottawa the Senators would host the Florida Panthers. In the first period Evgenii Dadonov would strike on the powerplay for the Panthers to take the 1-0 lead, but Tyler Ennis and Chris Tierney would strike to give the Senators the 2-1 lead. Then in the second period the Panthers would strike for four goals as Dadonov would strike for his second of game on the powerplay, plus Noel Acciari, Frank Vatrano, and Colton Sceviour would also tally to give the Panthers the 5-2 lead. In the third period Connor Brown would score for the Senators, but Jonathan Huberdeau’s empty netter would seal the 6-3 victory for the Panthers.

The Toronto Maple Leafs would travel to Winnipeg to face the Jets, and in the first period the Leafs would strike first with tallies from William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen to take the 2-0 lead. Then in the second period the Jets would get goals from Kyle Connor (PPG), Patrik Laine, and Mark Scheifele, but the Leafs would get goals from Travis Dermott, Pierre Engvall, and Mitch Marner (PPG) to keep their two goal lead. In the second period Nazem Kadri and Mikko Rantanen (PPG) would score to grow the Avalanche’s lead to three, but the Blues would begin to mount a comeback as Robert Thomaas and Alex Pietrangelo (PPG) would score to get the Blues within one, however, Cale Makar would strike on the powerplay to give the Avalanche the 4-2 lead. In the third period Kadri would net his second of the game, and JT Compher and Joonas Donskoi would both tally to give the Avalanche the 7-2 lead. Thomas would score his second of the game for the Blues, but it would not be enough as the Avalanche would go on to win 7-3.

 

Chicago Blackhawks v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

In Vancouver the Canucks and the Chicago Blackhawks would play a close one. In the first period JT Miller would open the scoring for the Canucks, but Connor Murphy would tie the game back up at one. Then in the second period we would see a six goal period as David Kampf, Patrick Kane (PPG), and Jonathan Toews would score for the Blackhawks, and Tanner Pearson, Quinn Hughes (PPG), and Elias Pettersson would score for the Canucks as the game would be tied at four going into the second intermission. In the third period Bo Horvat would break the tie with his 11th of the season, but Kane would net his second of the game to tie the game back up at five, but Adam Gaudette would score to retake the lead for the Canucks, and Horvat would score his second of the game as they would go on to win 7-5.

 

Philadelphia Flyers v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

In Vegas the Golden Knights would play host to the Philadelphia Flyers. In the first period the Flyers would get goals from Claude Giroux and Travis Konecny, but goals from Shea Theodore, Max Pacioretty (PPG and EVS), and Jon Merrill to take the 4-2 lead. Then in the second period Cody Glass would score to grow Vegas’ lead to three, but Sean Couturier would tally his 11th of the season to bring the Flyers back within two. In the third period Couturier would net his second of the game while on the powerplay to bring the Flyers within one, but the Golden Knights would hold on for the 5-4 victory.

News:

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that forward Jake Guentzel will miss four to six months after successful shoulder surgery.

 

  • The Toronto Maple Leafs announced they have re-signed defenseman Justin Holl to a three year contract extension.

 

  • The NHL Department of Player Safety has announced that they have fined forward Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins $5000, maximum allowed under the CBA, for high sticking Ottawa forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau.

 

  • NHL DoPS also announced that they have fined Ottawa Senators forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau $2500 for roughing Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin.

 

  • The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that goaltender Joonas Korpisalo had successful surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee.

In the third period Gabriel Ladeskog would strike on the powerplay to tie the game up at three for the Avalanche. However, Kyle Connor would score his second of the game to retake the lead for the Jets, and then Connor would finish the hat trick along with Wheeler’s second of the game and a goal from Nikolaj Ehlers to give the Jets the 7-4 victory. Nazem Kadri would score the fourth goal for Colorado.

In Los Angeles the Kings would pounce on the Philadelphia Flyers in the first period with four goals from Kyle Clifford, Alex Iafallo (PPG), Tyler Toffoli (PPG), and Adrian Kempe (SHG) to take a commanding 4-0 lead. In the second period Justin Braun would strike for the Flyers to cut their deficit to three. In the third period the Flyers would get goals from Claude Giroux and Scott Laughton, but Martin Frk’s tally would secure the 5-3 victory for the Kings.

However, in the final minute of the second period Chris Kreider would score shorthanded to get the Rangers on the board. In the third period the Rangers would have a four goal period as Ryan Strome (SHG), Marc Staal (SHG), Artemi Panarin, and Mika Zibanejad (SHG) would all score to get the Rangers within one of the Oilers, but Kailer Yamamoto’s first of the season while on the powerplay would secure the Oilers the 7-5 victory.

Then in the third period Robert Thomas (PPG) and Schwartz (second of the game) would both score to give the Blues the 4-1 victory and their eighth consecutive victory.

The New Jersey Devils defeated the Ottawa Senators in a wild back and forth matchup that would require overtime.

 

Chicago Blackhawks v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 5p EST Start Time

  • The Chicago Blackhawks announced a slew of injuries on Thursday as Brandon Saad will be out three weeks with a right ankle injury, and both Calvin de Haan (right shoulder) and Brent Seabrook (right shoulder and hip) have been placed on LTIR and will miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

  • The New Jersey Devils have traded forwards Taylor Hall and Blake Speers to the Arizona Coyotes for Arizona’s 2020 First Rd Pick (Conditional), 2021 Third Rd Pick (Conditional), along with prospect forwards Nick Merkley and Nate Schnarr, and prospect defenseman Kevin Bahl.

  • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Philadelphia Flyers forward Joel Farabee has been suspended for three games for interference agains Mathieu Perreault of the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, Dec. 15th. Farabee will forfeit $14,919.36 in salary per the CBA.

 

  • The Chicago Blackhawks announced after a thorough investigation that assistant coach Marc Crawford will remain suspended from team activities until January 2nd, 2020 due to past conduct at previous coaching jobs. Crawford was removed from team activities on Dec. 2nd once reports of his past transgressions were revealed.

Nashville Predators v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time

At Madison Square Garden the Nashville Predators would pounce on the New York Rangers. In the first period both teams would trade goals as Rocco Grimaldi would get the Predators on the board first, but Chris Kreider would respond less than a minute later to tie the game at one. Then in the second period the Predators defense would begin to score as Roman Josi and Mattias Ekholm would score to give the Predators the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period Artemi Panarin would strike for the Rangers, but Josi would score his second of the game, and Ryan Ellis would score to secure the Predators the 5-2 victory.

 

Washington Capitals v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p EST Start Time

The Washington Capitals would lay an egg in Columbus as the Blue Jackets would get a pair of goals from Oliver Bjorkstrand, and a goal from Eric Robinson to shutout the Capitals 3-0.

 

Colorado Avalanche v. St. Louis Blues – 8p EST Start Time

In St. Louis the Blues would get the jump as David Perron would get them on the board first with his 13th of the season. Then in the second period the Colorado Avalanche would respond with goals from Nazem Kadri and Mikko Rantanen (PPG), but Perron would strike again for the Blues while on the powerplay, and Vince Dunn would add a powerplay tally of his own to gove the Blues the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period the Blues would finish it as Jordan Kyru would net his first of the season and Perron would complete the hat trick to secure the 5-2 victory.

 

Edmonton Oilers v. Dallas Stars – 830p EST Start Time

In Dallas the Edmonton Oilers would strike quick as Zack Kassian and Leon Draisaitl (PPG) would score first period goals to take the 2-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Tyler Seguin would score for the Stars, but it would not be enough as the Oilers would hold on to win 2-1.

Game Recaps:

Columbus Blue Jackets v. Ottawa Senators – 1p EST Start Time

In Ottawa the Senators would host the Columbus Blue Jackets for an early afternoon matinee. In the first period Cam Atkinson would score for the Jackets, but the Senators would get a pair of goals from Anthony Duclair to take the 2-1 lead. In the second period the Senators would grow their lead with a Connor Brown tally. Then in the third period the Jackets would tie the game at three as they would get a pair of goals from Alexandre Texier to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame Anthony Duclair would score the game winner to cap off the hat trick and give the Senators the 4-3 victory.

 

Buffalo Sabres v. New York Islanders – 1p EST Start Time

On Long Island the New York Islanders would face off with the Buffalo Sabres, and in the first period the Islanders would get on the board first with Michael Dal Colle’s second of the season. Then in the second period Victor Olofsson would strike on the powerplay to tie the game at one for the Sabres. In the third period both teams would trade goals as Jordan Eberle would score his third of the season, and Jack Eichel would continue his point streak with his 23rd goal of the season while on the powerplay to tie the game at two and send the game to overtime. In overtime Anthony Beauvillier would score his 10th of the season and secure the 3-2 victory for the Islanders.

 

New York Rangers v. Anaheim Ducks – 4p EST Start Time

In Anaheim the New York Rangers would continue their California trip as they would face the Ducks. In the first period Mika Zibanejad would score ten seconds into the game to give the Rangers the quick 1-0 lead. Then Artemi Panarin would score minutes later to grow the lead to two, but Jakob Silfverberg would net his 12th of the season to get the Ducks on the board. Then in the second period Erik Gudbranson would score his second of the season to tie the game at two, but early in the third period Zibanejad would net his second of the game to regain the lead for the Rangers. However late in the third while on the powerplay Hampus Lindholm would score his first of the seaosn while on the powerplay to tie the game at three. After a scoreless overtime period it would be Jakob Silfverberg securing the 4-3 victory for the Ducks.

 

Carolina Hurricanes v. Calgary Flames – 4p EST Start Time

In Calgary the Carolina Hurricanes would continue their Western Canadian trip as they look to take down the red hot Flames. After a scoreless first period the Hurricanes would strike as Brock McGinn would score his third of the season to take the 1-0 lead, then Dougie Hamilton would net his 12th of the season while on the powerplay to take a 2-0 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period Warren Foegele would strike while shorthanded to grow the Hurricanes lead to three, then Foegele would strike again while shorthanded as the Hurricanes would go on to put out the Flames 4-0.

 

Dallas Stars v. Nashville Predators – 630p EST Start Time

In a preview of the Winter Classic taking place in two weeks, the Nashville Predators would play host to the Dallas Stars. After a scoreless first period Austin Watson would score for the Predators, but then it would be all Stars as they would get goals from Blake Comeau (SHG), Roope Hintz, Jamie Oleksiak, and Andrew Cogliano to defeat the Predators 4-1.

 

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Edmonton Oilers – 7p EST Start Time

In Edmonton the Toronto Maple Leafs would blow out the Oilers. In the first period Alexander Kerfoot would strike first for the 1-0 lead for the Leafs. Then in the second period Ilya Mikheyev would net his fifth of the season for the Leafs. In the third period Alex Chiasson would strike on the powerplay for the Oilers, but Frederik Gauthier and Mitch Marner (PPG) would both strike as the Leafs would defeat the Oilers 4-1.

 

Philadelphia Flyers v. Minnesota Wild – 7p EST Start Time

In Minnesota the Philadelpgia Flyers would strike first against the Wild with a James van Riemsdyk tally, but the Wild would strike back as Zach Parise and Eric Staal would net first period tallys to take the 2-1 lead. In the second period Staal would net his second of the game, and in the third period Carson Soucy would score shorthanded to secure the 4-1 victory for the Wild.

 

Detroit Red Wings v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

In a battle between two Original Six teams, the Montreal Canadiens would play host to the Detroit Red Wings.In the first period Tyler Bertuzzi would get the Wings on the board first with his 11th of the season. Then after a scoreless second period Mike Green would give the Wings the two goal lead on the powerplay. Tomas Tatar would score shorthanded for the Canadiens, but it would not be enough as the Wings would take the 2-1 victory.

 

Washington Capitals v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p EST Start Time

The Washington Capitals ground the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2 as they begin their Mentors/Dads Trip.

 

Boston Bruins v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

In Florida the Boston Bruins would finally break their losing streak as they would take on the Panthers. In the first two period the Bruins would strike with goals from Jake DeBrusk, David Krejci, and David Pastrnak (PPG). Then in the third period Mark Pysyk and Keith Yandle would score to get the Panthers on the board, but Pastrnak’s second of the game would secure the 4-2 victory for the Bruins.

 

Los Angeles Kings v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

In Pittsburgh the Penguins would play host to the Los Angeles Kings, and in the first period it would be all Kings as Austin Wagner and Tyler Toffoli would give the Kings the 2-0 lead. Then in the second period Bryan Rust would score a pair of goals to tie the game at two for the Penguins. In the third period both teams would trade goals as Kyle Clifford and Michael Amadio would score for the Kings, and Teddy Blueger and Jack Johnson would score for the Penguins as the game would go into overtime tied at four. After the extra frame would not provide us a winner, a shootout would be required, and it would be Rust scoring the lone shootout goal to give the Penguins the 5-4 victory.

 

New Jersey Devils v. Arizona Coyotes – 8p EST Start Time

In Arizona, the Kachina clad Coyotes would play host to the New Jersey Devils. In the first period both teams would trade goals as Jesper Boqvist would score first to give the Devils the 1-0 lead, but the Coyotes would respond with an Alex Goligoski goal. After a scoreless second period Kyle Palmieri would score the game winner for the Devils as they would defeat the Coyotes 2-1.

 

Chicago Blackhawks v. St. Louis Blues – 8p EST Start Time

After a scoreless first period the Chicago Blackhawks would score 19 seconds into the second period with a Brandon Saad tally. Then in the third period Saad would net his second of the game and Patrick Kane would net his 15th of the season, but the host St. Louis Blues would strike with back to back goals by Tyler Bozak, and goals from Jacob de la Rose and Justin Faulk as the Blues would defeat the Blackhawks 4-3.

 

Vancouver Canucks v. San Jose Sharks – 10p EST Start Time

In San Jose, the Sharks would play host to the Vancouver Canucks, and in the first period Tomas Hertl would score to give the Sharks the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period the Canucks would get goals from Jake Virtanen and Bo Horvat, but the Sharks would get goals from Timo Meier, Evander Kane, and Logan Couture to defeat the Canucks 4-2.
