NHL News and Notes from Monday, January 13th, 2020
- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they have placed defenseman Morgan Rielly on injured reserve due to a fractured foot that will keep him out of the lineup for a minimum of eight weeks.
- The Maple Leafs also announced that they have recalled defenseman Rasmus Sandin.
Calgary Flames v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time
In Montreal the Canadiens would would face off with the Calgary Flames. In the first period Jordan Weal would score to give the Canadiens the 1-0 lead. Then in the third period Ryan Poehling would strike to secure the 2-0 victory for Montreal.
New York Islanders v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time
In Madison Square Garden for the battle of New York the Rangers would play host to the Islanders. In the first period Jordan Eberle would strike 18 seconds into the game for the Islanders, but Jesper Fast would strike to tie the game at one for the Rangers. Then in the second period Chris Kreider and Adam Fox would score to give the Rangers a two goal lead. In the third period Brock Nelson would score for the Islanders, but a pair of goals from Artemi Panarin, and a powerplay tally from Jacob Trouba would give the Rangers the 6-2 victory.
Boston Bruins v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p EST Start Time
In Philadelphia, the Flyers would bounce back from a three goal deficit against the Boston Bruins. In the first period Kevin Hayes would strike on the powerplay for the Flyers, but goals from Anders Bjork and David Krejci (PPG) to give the Bruins the 2-1 lead. In the second period David Pastrnak would score 33 seconds into the period, but Travis Sanheim would score to bring the Flyers back withing one. However, Boston would get goals from Charlie Coyle and Krejci’ second of the game to give the Bruins a commanding 5-2 lead, but second period goals from Sean Couturier and Connor Bunnaman, and a third period goal from Sanheim would tie the game at five and send the game to overtime. After a scoreless overtime period, Travis Konecny would strike, and Brad Marchand would over skate the puck at center ice, to give the Flyers the 6-5 victory.
Carolina Hurricanes v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time
The Washington Capitals would play host to the Carolina Hurricanes, and in the first period Alex Ovechkin would score a pair of goals to surpass Teemu Selanne for 11th on the All Time Scoring list, and give the Capitals the 2-0 victory and Ilya Samsonov’s first career shutout.
Anaheim Ducks v. St. Louis Blues – 8p EST Start Time
In St. Louis the Blues would host the Anaheim Ducks, and in the first period Alexander Steen would strike first for the Blues, but Max Comtois would score to tie the game at one. Then in the second period Tyler Bozak and Jaden Schwartz, and a third period tally by Ivan Barbashev would give the Blues the 4-1 victory.
