NHL News and Notes from Tuesday, January 28th, 2020

 

News:

  • In NWHL news Connecticut Whale forward Hanna Beattie will join Team Packer, and Minnesota Whitecaps forward Meghan Lorence will join Team Dempsey for the NWHL All Star Weekend February 8th and 9th.
    • Beattie will be replacing Sydney Baldwin of the Whitecaps, and Lorence will be replacing Jordan Brickner of the Whale as both players will be unavailable.

 

Game Recaps:

Ottawa Senators v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p EST Start Time

In Buffalo the Sabres would play host to the Ottawa Senators. In the first period Jean-Gabriel Pageau would strike on the powerplay for the Senators, but Sam Reinhart would strike on the powerplay for the Sabres to tie the game at one. In the second period Tyler Ennis would strike on the powerplay for the Senators, but Jack Eichel would score for the Sabres to tie the game at two. However, in the third period the Senators would have a three goal period as Mike Reilly (PPG), Mark Borowiecki (SHG), and Nikita Zaitsev would all score to give the Senators the 5-2 victory.

 

St. Louis Blues v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

In Calgary the Flames would play host to the St. Louis Blues. In the first period Matthew Tkachuk (PPG) and Sean Monahan (PPG) would both score for the Flames, but goals from Alexander Steen, David Perron, and Jaden Schwartz (PPG) to take the 3-2 lead. Then in the second period Monahan (PPG) would net his second of the game and Mark Jankowski would score to give the Flames the 4-3 lead. Then in the second period Zach Sanford would score for the Blues to tie the game at four and send it to overtime. After a scoreless five minutes Ryan O’Reilly would score in the shootout to give the Blues the 5-4 victory.
