- The NHL and NHLPA announced new updates to the COVID-19 Protocols.
- Changes include the removal of “enhanced measures” and reverting back to the start of season protocol except where otherwise specified.
- Recommendations to types of masks used and steps to reduce community spread.
- Plus Testing changes for Fully Vaccinated individuals and for close contacts, amongst other changes to the Protocols as well.

- NHL Rookie of the Month – Lundell Passes the Competition for Top Honors
- The NHL announced that Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau has earned top honors as First Star for the month of January.
- Juuse Saros (NAS and Bryan Rust (PIT) would wound out the rest of the Three Stars.
- NHL 3 Stars of the Month – Huberdeau Pounces with the Assists for Top Honors
- United States President Joe Biden has signed the “Willie O’Ree Congressional Medal Act” into law.
- This was the final step of the process to award O’Ree the prestigious honor.

- Seattle Kraken v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET
- In Boston the Bruins would host the Seattle Kraken, and after a scoreless first period David Pastrnak and Taylor Hall would score to give the B’s the 2-0 lead. Then in the third period Joonas Donskoi and Mason Appleton would score to tie the game at two for the Kraken, but Pastrnak would net his second of the game to give the Bruins the 3-2 victory over the Kraken.

- San Jose Sharks v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p ET
- In Tampa Bay the Lightning would host the San Jose Sharks, and after a scoreless first period Rudolfs Balcers would score for the Sharks, but goals from Anthony Cirelli and Alex Killorn would score to give the Bolts the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period Logan Couture would score to tie the game at two for the Sharks to force overtime. In the extra frame Victor Hedman would score to give the Lightning the 3-2 victory over the Sharks.

- Toronto Maple Leafs v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET
- In New Jersey for the second game of their home and home series the Devils would host the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in the first period Jason Spezza, Auston Matthews, David Kampf, and Mitch Marner would score to give the Leafs the 4-0 lead. In the second period Michael Bunting and Pierre Engvall would score to grow the Leafs lead to six. Then in the third period ack Hughes would score for the Devils, but Marner would net his second of the game to give the Leafs the 7-1 victory over the Devils.

- Florida Panthers v. New York Rangers – 7p ET
- At Madison Square Garden the New York Rangers would host the red hot Florida Panthers, and in the first period Mika Zibanejad would strike quick for the Rangers, but Anthony Duclair would strike to tie the game at one. In the second period Sam Reinhart would strike for the Panthers, but goals from Alexis Lafreniere and Chris Kreider would give the Rangers the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period Kreider would net his second of the game and Artemi Panarin would score to give the Rangers the 5-2 victory over the Panthers.

- Winnipeg Jets v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p ET
- In Philadelphia the Flyers would host the Winnipeg Jets, and in the first period Kyle Connor would score to give the Jets the 1-0 lead. In the second period Travis Konecny would strike to tie the game at one for the Flyers. Then in the third period James van Riemsdyk and Oskar Lindblom would score to give the Flyers the 3-1 victory over the Jets.

- Washington Capitals v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET
- In Pittsburgh the Penguins would host the Washington Capitals, and in the first period Nic Dowd would strike shorthanded for the Caps, but back to back powerplay goals by Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust would score for the Pens to take the 2-1 lead. However, Dmitry Orlov would strike on the powerplay to tie the game at two. In the second period Rust would net his second of the game for the Pens and Daniel Sprong would score for a 3-3 tie. After a scoreless third period Orlov would net his second of the game to give the Capitals the 4-3 victory over the Penguins.

- Ottawa Senators v. New York Islanders – 730p ET
- On Long Island the New York Islanders would host the Ottawa Senators, and in the first period Nick Holden would score to give the Sens the 1-0 lead, but Anthony Beauvillier would score to tie the game at one. In the second period Oliver Wahlstrom and Mathew Barzal to give the Isles the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period Adam Pelech would score to give the Islanders the 4-1 victory over the Senators.

- Vancouver Canucks v. Nashville Predators – 8p ET
- In Nashville the Predators would host the Vancouver Canucks, and in the first period Matthew Highmore and Oliver Ekman-Larsson would strike for the Canucks, and Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg would score for the Preds for a 2-2 tie. In the second period Forsberg would net his second of the game to give the Preds the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period Tanner Jeannot would score to give the Predators the 4-2 victory over the Canucks.

- Calgary Flames v. Dallas Stars – 830p ET
- In Dallas the Stars would host the Calgary Flames, and in the first period Trevor Lewis would score for the Flames, but goals by Joel Hanley and Jason Robertson would score for the Stars to take the 2-1 lead. In the second period Jamie Benn would score to give the Stars the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period Andrew Mangiapane and Matthew Tkachuk would score in a matter of 37 seconds to tie the game at three for the Flames, and then Oliver Kylington would score to give the Flames the 4-3 comeback victory over the Stars.

- Arizona Coyotes v. Colorado Avalanche – 9p ET
- In Colorado the Avalanche would host the Arizona Coyotes, and after a scoreless first period Alex Galchenyuk would score for the Coyotes, but goals from Nazem Kadri and Mikko Rantanen would give the Avs the 2-1 lead. In the third, Arizona ties it up when Lawson Crouse nets his 11th of the year and after a scorless overtime, Alex Galchenyuk scores the lone goal in the shootout to give the Coyotes the 3-2 win over the Avalanche.

- Buffalo Sabres v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p ET
- In Vegas the Golden Knights would host the Buffalo Sabres, and in the first period Reilly Smith and Brett Howden would score to give the Knights the 2-0 lead. In the second, Vegas gets another pair of goals when Jonathan Marchessault nets his 20th on an extra man advantage and then Keegan Kolesar nets his fourth of the year with a shorthanded goal. Buffalo then gets on the board when Alex Tuch nets his fifth of the year. In the third, Mark Stone nets his eighth of the year to give Vegs the 5-0 lead lead and Buffalo scores their lone goal of the contest when Joh Hayden nets his first of the year as the Golden Knights breeze by the Sabres with the 5-1 win.
