New Jersey Devils (15-25-5 35pts)
Toronto Maple Leafs (29-10-3 61pts)
Game Recap:
After losing last night while in Toronto, the New Jersey Devils return home to conclude the home and away back to backs against the Maple Leafs. Tonight’s game didn’t go very well either. In fact, it was much worse then the night before. The Devils gave up four first period goals to Toronto as Jason Speeza, Auston Matthews, David Kampf, & Mitch Marner all scored to make it 4-0 in favor of the Maple Leafs after the first period.
Pierre Engval and Michael Bunting made it 6-0 for the Leafs. The Devils since puck drop didn’t play defense very well and couldn’t muster any sort of offense together. They would find themselves in a deep hole down by six goals after the second period.
Finally, Jack Hughes got the Devils on the board at the 3:31 mark of the third period for his twelfth goal of the season. Hughes fired a quick wrist shot from the face off circle that would beat Maple Leafs goalie Jack Campbell. Mitch Marner capped the scoring off for the evening by scoring his second of the game and goal number fourteen on the season to make it 7-0 in favor of the Maple Leafs who went on to win by that final score. Next time we see the Devils will be after the all star break as they return north of the border to take on the Ottawa Senators.
