NWHL Daily – Late Heroics as Game Resume

NWHL News and Notes from Saturday, January 30th, 2021

  • Buffalo Beauts v. Boston Pride – 3p ET
    • In the first of their Best of Three series the Buffalo Beauts and Boston Pride would do battle in what would be a low scoring, penalty filled game. In the first period Lauren Kelly would strike on the powerplay to give the Pride the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period the Beauts would tie it up with an Autumn MacDougall tally. In the third period the returning Lisa Cheeson would score while on the powerplay to give the Beauts the 2-1 victory and the 1-0 series lead.

  • Toronto Six v. Minnesota Whitecaps – 7p ET
    • In the first game of the Round Robin we would see a back and forth matchup between the #1 Minnesota Whitecaps and the #3 Toronto Six. In the first period Mikyla Grant-Mentis would score her third of the season to give the Six the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Nina Rodgers would net her first of the season to tie the game at one, but Taylor Woods would strike to reclaim the one goa lead for the Six. However, Brooke White-Lancette would tally to tie the game back up at two. Then in the third period Sarah-Eve Coutu Godbout would score her first career  NWHL goal to give Toronto the one goal lead, but Rodgers would net her second of the game to tie things back up only for Grant-Mentis to tally her second of the game with 24 seconds left to give the Six the 4-3 victory and hand the Whitecaps their first loss of the season.
