- The NHL named Buffalo Sabres netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen as the Rookie of the Month for January.
- NHL Rookie of the Month – Luukkonen Earns Top Rookie Honors
- The NHL announced that New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes has been named First Star of the Month for January.
- David Pastrnak (BOS) and Vince Dunn (SEA) would round out the rest of the Three Stars of the Month.
- NHL 3 Stars of the Month – Hughes Dazzles in January
- The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that forward Gustav Nyquist will miss the remainder of the regular season due a shoulder injury.
- The injury will not require surgery, and will have Nyquist placed on the IR retroactively to Jan. 28th.
- The Vegas Golden Knights announced that forward Mark Stone had successful back surgery.
- Stone will be out of the Knights lineup indefinitely, and is expected to make a full recovery.

- Carolina Hurricanes v. Buffalo Sabres – 730p ET
- In Buffalo the Reverse Retro clad Sabres would play host to the Carolina Hurricanes, and in the first period the Canes would surge as they would get goals from Sebastian Aho, Stefan Nosen, and Brent Burns to take the 3-0 lead, but Alex Tuch would strike to get the Sabres on the board and back within two. Then after a scoreless second period Derek Stepan and Jordan Martinook would score to give the Hurricanes the 5-1 victory over the Sabres.

- Boston Bruins v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 730p ET
- In Toronto we would get an Original Six battle as the Boston Bruins would visit the Maple Leafs, and after a scoreless first period Derek Forbort would open the scoring for the B’s while shorthanded, but Mitch Marner would score while on the powerplay to tie the game at one for the Leafs. However, Brandon Carlo would strike to regain the lead for the B’s. Then in the third period Calle Jarnkrok would score for the Leafs, but a pair of goals from Pavel Zacha and a tally from AJ Greer would give the Bruins the 5-2 victory over the Maple Leafs.
