- The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have fined Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson.
- Matheson was fined $5,000 for interference against Florida Panthers forward Eric Staal on Thursday night.
- The fine is the maximum allowed per the CBA.

- Ottawa Senators v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET
- In Pittsburgh the Penguins would rock their Winter Classic gear as they host the Ottawa Senators, and in the first period Rickard Rakell and Jason Zucker would score to give the Pens the 2-0 lead. In the second period Brady Tkachuk would score for the Sens, but Jake Guentzel’s tally would keep the Pens ahead by two. Then in the third period Guentzel would net his second of the game to give the Penguins the 4-1 victory over the Senators.

- Colorado Avalanche v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p ET
- In Vancouver the Canucks would play host to the Colorado Avalanche, and in the first period Andrew Cogliano would score to give the Avs the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Elias Pettersson would score for the Canucks, but goals from Valerie Nichushkin, Mikko Rantanen, and Brad Hunt would give the Avalanche the 4-1 victory over the Canucks.
