Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of December 12th through 18th.
First Star – Alex Ovechkin (LW – WAS)
- Alex Ovechkin would make history as he would become the third player in NHL history to reach 800 career goals as he would record three goals and two assists for five points in three games played for the Washington Capitals. Ovi would open the week by scoring a hat trick and tallying an assist in a 7-3 victory over Chicago on Dec. 13th. The third goal of the hat trick would give Ovechkin his 800th career NHL goal. The on Dec. 15th Ovechkin would get an assist in a 2-1 loss to Dallas, and he would be held off of the scoresheet against Toronto on Dec. 17th.

Second Star – Tage Thompson (C – BUF)
- Tage Thompson would earn the Second Star of the Week honors for a second consecutive week after record four goals and four assists for eight points in three games played for the Buffalo Sabres. To open up the week Thompson would record two goals and an assist in a 6-0 victory over Los Angeles on Dec. 13th, and on Dec. 15th he would record a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over Colorado. Then to close out the week Thompson would record a goal and two assists in a 5-2 victory over Arizona on Dec. 17th.

Third Star – Mats Zuccarello (RW – MIN)
- Mats Zuccarello would record five goals and three assists for eight points in four games for the Minnesota Wild, and he would start off the week with an assist in a 2-1 victory over Edmonton on Dec. 12th. Then on Dec. 14th against Detroit he would score a goal in the Wild’s 4-2 victory, and on Dec. 16th against Chicago Zuccarello would record a hat trick and an assist in a 4-1 victory. To close out the week Zuccarello would record a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over Ottawa on Dec. 18th.
