New York Rangers vs Tampa Bay Lightning
Game 3- (NYR leads series 2-1)
With the New York Rangers currently in control of the series, they look to take a stranglehold of it as they look to make it 3-0 against the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning. This game proved there is no quit in the Lightning either. Period one was pretty evenly matched with Tampa taking the edge in shots 15-12. However, this game would remain scoreless heading into the first intermission.
Period two saw things start to tick upwards on the scoreboard. Within a span of a little over two minutes, the Rangers struck on the power play twice thanks to goals from Mika Zabanejad on a one time shot, and Chris Kreider cleaning up the rebound in front of the net to make it 2-0 in favor of New York. However, the Lightning were able to capitalize themselves on the power play as Nikita Kucherov scored his sixth goal of the playoffs with a one timer that trickled through Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin to get the game within one goal. After the second period, the New York Rangers would carry a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Period three saw the Lightning flex their championship muscles and showed why they’re still the defending champs. Steven Stamkos early on one timed a shot from the circle on the power play to tie the game for Tampa Bay. The Lightning would keep on pressing and pressing on the Rangers and eventually it would pay off late. Odrej Palat would score the game winner at the 19:18 mark on a beautiful passing sequence from Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov who set up Palat for the game winner. With the Rangers having the extra attacker, the Lightning were able to lock down the victory and win by a final score of 3-2. The Lightning look to tie the series up at two on Tuesday night in Game 4 against the Rangers on home ice.
