Tampa Bay Lightning vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Game 5- (TOR leads series 3-2)
With another series tied at two, both the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs look to take control again with the chance to advance to the next round. This game would not disappoint at all. Tampa would jump out to a 2-0 lead within a minute of between goals as Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman (power play goal) gave the Lightning an early advantage and take that lead into the second period.
John Tavares got the Maple Leafs on the board in the second period as a puck would hit him and into the goal to get his team within one goal. After the Tavares goal, it would be rather quiet until the third period as the Tampa Bay Lightning had a 2-1 lead.
Like I said, this game and certainly this period would not disappoint. Period three was very high octane as the Leafs stormed back to get a 3-2 lead as they would get goals from Morgan Reilly and William Nylander as both would fire wrist shots and in past Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy within a span of a little over a minute from each other. However, the Lightning wouldn’t go away quietly as Ryan McDonagh would fire a wicked slap shot to tie the game at three. It would be tied until Austin Matthews had other ideas as he scored the game winner at the 13:54 mark on a two on one as Mitch Marner set him up as he would collect the rebound and put the puck into the back of the net. After that, the Toronto Maple Leafs shut the game down and defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning by a final score of 4-3 and look to eliminate the defending champions in game 6 on Thursday night.
