Game Recap

In the first period, the Kings take the early lead when Troy Stecher gets his second goal of the postseason at 3:53. Following the Los Angeles goal, things settle down with both teams geting a lot of possessions of the puck. Edmonton came close to making it a tie game but the Oilers are unbale to get the puck in the Kings net and Los Angeles leads 1-0 with 10:42 left in the first period. Edmonton heads to the power play when Los Angeles’ Alexander Edler heads off for a Tripping call at 9:53. While on the power play, Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl makes a shot that hits the right side of the crossbar, barely missing the net, to keep it a 1-0 Los Angeles lead. Edmonton with 5 minutes left in the period have only gotten two shots off to the Kings 14. The Oilers will not win this contest if they are getting low shots like that off. The period comes to an end with the Kings heading into the locker room with the 1-0 lead over the Oilers.

With the penalty now expired, Edmonton ties the contest up when Zack Kassian scores his first of the postseason at 2:32. A turnover in front of the Oilers net results in Adrian Kempe scoring his first career NHL postseason goal at 9:29 to give the Kings the 2-1 lead. Another turnover leads to the Kings making this a 3-1 lead when Andreas Athanasiou scores his first of the postseason at 13:34. With a minute left in the period, Evander Kane takes a shot to Blake Lizotte’s knee which results in a power play for the Kings. Also, Zach Kassian heads off with a Cross-checking penalty and the Kings Blake Lizotte heads off with a matching Roughing minor with Evander Kane.
