Calgary Flames v. Dallas Stars
Game 3 – Series Tied 1-1
Game Recap:
With the series shifting to Dallas with both teams tied at one a piece the Stars would look to build upon their victory on Game 2 as they host the Calgary Flames, and things would heat up quickly less than 90 seconds into the game John Klingberg and Matthew Tkachuk would drop the gloves, and then seconds later Luke Glendenning would go to the box for cross checking to put the Flames on the powerplay. The Flames wouldn’t convert on the opportunity, but they would get another one as Joel Kiviranta would go to the box for high sticking. However, it would go away within four seconds as Elias Lindholm would go to the box for interference for some four on four action. After the minors would be finished Trevor Lewis and Joe Pavelski would go off for interference and slashing respectively in this penalty filled first 7 and a half minutes. after 20 minutes of penalties would be doled out it would be Radek Faksa with the tip in front to give the Stars the 1-0 lead. Later into the period the Flames would storm the net area, and despite a coach’s challenge, Trevor Lewis would score to tie the game at one for the Flames. As a result of the failed coach’s challenge the Flames would head onto the powerplay. After the penalty expired Andrew Mangiapane would get called for goalie interference to put the Stars on their first proper powerplay of the game. The Stars would not strike on the powerplay as this game would go into the first intermission tied at one.
In the second period the Flames would strike early as Elias Lindholm would blast a shot from the top of the slot area to give the Flames the 2-1 lead. After the goal was scored Radek Faksa would get called for interference to put the Flames back onto the powerplay, and despite a late flurry of chances the Flames would not be able to capitalize on the powerplay opportunity. Past the midway point of the period the Stars would strike as Joe Pavelski would score to tie the game at two. After the goal there would be some more feistiness as Michael Raffl and Oliver Kylington would both get called for roughing. In the final minute of the period the Stars would make a push in the Flames zone and Nikita Zadorov would get called for tripping to give the Stars a powerplay to start the third period as the game would remain tied at two.
Then in the third period the Stars would continue the powerplay that carried over into the third, but they would be unable to capitalize on the extra man advantage. Then later in the period Blake Coleman would take an ill-advised penalty to put the Stars back on the powerplay, and this time Joe Pavelski would strike from the doorstep to give the Stars the 3-2 lead. In the final minutes of regulation the Flames would pull the goaltender for the extra attacker, but Roope Hintz would hit the empty net with a second left to give the Stars the 4-2 victory over the Flames to take the 2-1 series lead.
