New Jersey Devils (21-31-5 47pts) vs
Colorado Avalanche (41-12-5 87pts)
Coming off a thrilling overtime victory on Sunday afternoon, the New Jersey Devils look to continue winning by facing off against the Colorado Avalanche tonight for the second game of their four game home stand. The first period one was not a good one for the Devils as they found themselves down 2-0 to the Avalanche on two power play goals on goals by Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. MacKinnon batted a picked down that bounced it’s way into the back of the net while Rantanen scored on a one time shot from the right face off circle. Colorado would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Cale Makar continues his amazing season by scoring his twenty-first goal of the year to give the Avalanche a 3-0 lead at the 5:52 mark of period two. However, things began to unravel for Colorado as the Devils were able to strike three times to tie the game up 3-3. Devils goals came from Tomas Tatar, Ty Smith, and Damon Severson on the power play to even up the score after two periods.
New Jersey was able to grab their first lead of the game at the 13:04 mark thanks to a Nathan Bastian power play goal as he put in the rebound shot from Jack Hughes past Avalanche goalie Darcy Kuemper to make it 4-3 in favor of the Devils. Despite a late third period penalty by PK Subban, the Devils were able to score an empty net short handed goal thanks to Yegor Sharngovich to extend the lead to 5-3 to seal the win for New Jersey. Next time we see the Devils back in action is on Thursday night at the Prudential Center.
