PHF Weekend Recap – Weekend Sweeps Return

Welcome to the TXHT PHF Weekend Recap for the Weekend of Saturday, February 26th and Sunday, February 27th, 2022, plus news coming out of the weekend.

Saturday, February 26th, 2022

Game #1 – Toronto Six v. Metropolitan Riveters

  • In New Jersey the Metropolitan Riveters would rock their Black Rosie jerseys as they host the Toronto Six, and after a scoreless first period Kendall Cornine and Haley Frade would strike for the Rivs while Shiann Darkangelo and Breanne Wilson-Bennett would score for the Six for a 2-2 tie. Then in the third period Madison Packer would score for the Rivs, but goals from Saroya Tinker and Emma Woods would give the Six the 4-3 victory over the Riveters.

Game #2 – Buffalo Beauts v. Boston Pride

  • In Boston the Pride would host the Buffalo Beauts, and in the first period Dominique Kremer would strike to give the Beauts the 1-0 lead. In the second period Taylor Accursi and Emilie Harley would score to give the Beauts the three goal lead, but goals from Mallory Souliotis, Kayla Friesen, and McKenna Brand would score for the Pride to tie the game at three. Then in the third period Mary Parker would score to complete the comeback as the Pride would defeat the Beauts 4-3.

Sunday, February 27th, 2022

Game #1 – Buffalo Beauts v, Boston Pride

  • Back in Boston the Pride would take on the Buffalo Beauts for the second game of their weekend series, and in the first period Amanda Boulier would score the lone goal of the game to give the Pride the 1-0 victory over the Beauts and complete the weekend series sweep.

Game #2 – Toronto Six v. Metropolitan Riveters

  • In New Jersey for the second game of their weekend series the Metropolitan Riveters would host the Toronto Six, and in the first period Madison Packer would score for the Rivs, but goals from Mikyla Grant-Mentis and Brook Boquist would give the Six the 2-1 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Rebecca Russo would score to tie the game at two, but a late powerplay tally from Taylor Woods would give the Six the 3-2 victory over the Riveters thus completing the weekend series sweep.

News and Notes

  • The PHF announced a series of rule updates for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
    • PHF teams are permitted to sign up to two players from other professional leagues and spend an additional $10,000 on salaries above the existing $300,000 cap for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
    • The current roster limit of 25 contracts is expanded to 26
      • Clubs are also now able to dress 18 skaters per game (plus two goaltenders)
    • 2021-22 rosters will freeze on March 14 with no free agent additions or PTO contracts available past this date.

Standings

3 Stars of the Week

First Star – Katie Burt (BOS)

  • Burt would stop all 52 shots she faced as she would guide the Boston Pride to back to back victories over the Buffalo Beauts. On Saturday she would come in for relief as she would stop all 15 shots in 35 minutes played as the Pride erased a 3-0 deficit to comeback and win 4-3. Then on Sunday Burt would make 37 saves in a 1-0 victory to earn her second shutout of the season.

Second Star – Emma Woods (TOR)

  • Woods would record a goal and two assists for three points in two games played as the Toronto Six would return to their winning ways. On Saturday Emma would score shorthanded to give the Six the 4-3 victory over Metropolitan. Then on Sunday Emma would record a pair of assists in Toronto’s 3-2 victory over the Riveters.

Third Star – Taylor Woods (TOR)

  • The other Woods on the Six would also record a goal and two assists for three points in two games played as she would record an assist in Saturday’s victory, and then on Sunday Taylor would record a goal and an assist to guide the Six over the Riveters.
