New Jersey Devils (15-20-5 35pts) vs
Los Angeles Kings (21-16-5 47pts)
Game Recap:
Coming off a huge win the night before, the New Jersey Devils quickly return to action against the Los Angeles Kings. It wouldn’t take the Devils long to score as Jesper Bratt continues his phenomenal season by scoring his twelfth goal of the season on a breakaway and deking out Kings goalie Cal Petersen to make it 1-0. The Kings moments later had a different idea as Alex Iafallo tied the game as he scored his twelfth of the season on the rush and sniping a shot that beat goalie Jon Gilles top shelf for the goal. The scoreboard would calm down for a bit until late in the period. Jesper Bratt scored his thirteenth of the season with a laser of a shot that was set up for him by Damon Severson at the 17:34 mark and was on the power play to give the Devils a 2-1 after the first period.
Period two was pretty quiet for the most part as the Devils did a great job at limiting the chances for the Kings. Unfortunately, all the Kings needed was one and they got one thanks to Viktor Arvidsson was sprung in on a breakaway and fired a shot past the blocker for his tenth goal of the season. That would be the only goal scored and the scored would be tied 2-2 heading into the third period.
Carl Grundstrom gave L.A. their first lead of the game at the 11:05 mark as he took a Jack Hughes giveaway in his own zone and fired it through Jon Gilles blocker side to make it 3-2 in favor of the Kings. Grundstrom’s goal would be all there was as the Kings did a great job at holding off the Devils and limiting their chances as they would go on to win the game. Next time we see the Devils in action is on Tuesday night as they welcome the Dallas Stars into town.
