  • The Washington Capitals announced that they will be hosting the NHL Black Hockey History Museum in Rockville, MD on Jan. 21st, and in Reston, VA on Jan. 22nd.

  • The NHL announced that Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand as the First Star of the Week.
    • Marc-Andre Fleury (CHI) and Nikita Kucherov (TB) would round out the rest of the Three Strars.

Game Recaps

  • Detroit Red Wings v. Buffalo Sabres – 1p ET
    • In Buffalo for a rare Monday afternoon matinee the Sabres would host the Detroit Red Wings, and in the first period Henri Jokiharju would score to give the Sabres the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Jeff Skinner would score to give the Sabres the 2-0 lead, but Vladislav Namestnikov would score to bring the Wings back within one and Dylan Larkin would score to tie the game at two to send it to overtime. In the extra frame Larkin would strike again to give the Red Wings the 3-2 victory over the Sabres.

  • Minnesota Wild v. Colorado Avalanche – 3p ET
    • In Colorado the Avalanche would host the Minnesota Wild, and in the first period Mikko Rantanen and Alex Newhook would score to give the Avs the 2-0 lead. In the second period Kevin Fiala would score to get the Wild on the board and back within one. Then in the third period Kirill Kaprizov would score a pair of goals for the Wild to take the lead, but Nathan MacKinnon would score to tie the game at three and send the game to overtime. After a scoreless five minutes of extra hockey Rantanen would score in the shootout to give the Avalanche the 4-3 victory over the Wild.

  • Los Angeles Kings v. San Jose Sharks – 4p ET
    • In san Jose the Sharks would host the Los Angeles Kings, and in the first period Anze Kopitar would score for the Kings, but Rudolfs Balcers would score and Timo Meier would record a hat trick to give the Sharks the 4-1 lead. In the second period Meier would net two more goals to give the Sharks the five goal lead. Then in the third period Mikey Anderson would score score for the Kings, but the Sharks would hold on for the 6-2 victory over the Kings.

  • Montreal Canadiens v. Arizona Coyotes – 4p ET
    • In Arizona the Coyotes would host the Montreal Canadiens, and in the first period Rem Pitlick would score for the Habs, but goals from Travis Boyd and Johan Larsson would give the Coyotes the 2-1 lead. In the second period Ryan Poehling would strike for the Habs, but Janis Moser and Nick Schmaltz would score to put the Coyotes ahead by two. Then in the third period Clayton Keller would score to give the Coyotes the 5-2 victory over the Canadiens.
  • Chicago Blackhawks v. Seattle Kraken – 5p ET
    • In Seattle the Kraken would take on the Chicago Blackhawks, and after a scoreless first period Vince Dunn would score for the Kraken, but goals from Dominik Kubalik and Brendan Hagel would give the Blackhawks the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period Ryan Donato would score to tie the game at two and send the game to overtime. After a scoreless overtime period Joonas Donskoi would strike in the shootout to give the Kraken the 3-2 victory over the Blackhawks.

  • Philadelphia Flyers v. New York Islanders – 730p ET
    • On Long Island the New York Islanders would host the Philadelphia Flyers fort he first game of their home and home series, and after a scoreless first period Brock Nelson and Casey Cizikas would score to give the Isles the 2-0 lead, but Travis Konecny would strike to get the Flyers back within one. Then in the third period Anthony Beauvillier and Matt Martin would score to give the Islanders the 4-1 victory over the Flyers.
  • Nashville Predators v. St. Louis Blues – 8p ET
    • In St. Louis the Blues would retire Chris Pronger’s #44 before they took on the Nashville Predators, and in the first period Ryan Johansen would strike early and Filip Forsberg would score later in the period to give the Preds the 2-0 lead, but Ivan Barbashev and Ryan O’Reilly would score to tie the game at two for the Blues. In the second period Brayden Schenn and Barbashev would score to give the Blues the two goal lead. Then in the third period Yakov Trenin would score for the Preds, but Schenn would net his second of the game to give the Blues the 5-3 victory over the Predators.

  • Pittsburgh Penguins v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p ET
    • In Vegas the Golden Knights would host the Pittsburgh Penguins, and in the first period Chandler Stephenson, Evgenii Dadonov, and Nicolas Roy would score to give the Knights the 3-0 lead. In the second, Jason Zucker scores his fifth of the year during the power play and Teddy Blueger nets his eighth to bring the Pens within a goal. In the third, Kasperi Kapanen ties the game with his ninth of the year and then Jake Guentzel scores his 20th of the year to give Pittsburgh the 4-3 lead. Sidney Crosby then scores his sixth of the year, an empty net goal, as Pittsburgh scores five unanswered goals to defeat Vegas 5-3.
