New Jersey Devils (13-16-5 31pts) @
Boston Bruins (17-10-2 36pts)
Hoping to extend their winning streak four games, a depleted New Jersey Devils take on the Boston Bruins tonight. The Devils would be without Nico Hischier (injury), Dougie Hamilton (injury), Yegor Sharngovich (COVID protocol), & Pavel Zacha (COVID protocol). Boston would get on the board early thanks to Curtis Lazar’s third goal of the season. Lazar skated towards the face off circle and fired a shot that would sneak under the lads of goalie MacKenzie Blackwood to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. That goal would be the only one of the period as we head into period two.
The second period starting to see the scoring pick up between the two teams and it would start early on. Nathan Bastian would get in on a breakaway and score his fifth of the season to tie the game at one. Seconds later we saw a very strange goal scored by Oskar Steen which would be his first NHL goal. Steen knocked the puck off the top of the net and bounce off MacKenzie Blackwood’s mask and it to put the Bruins ahead 2-1. The scoring wouldn’t stop there. Tomas Tatar wouod chip a puck into the back of the net off of a rebound shot for his seventh goal of the season. It would quiet down temporarily until Trent Frederic scored his second goal of the year as he banked a shot off of MacKenzie Blackwood and in to give Boston a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
At the 7:36 mark of the third period and just killing off a penalty, the Devils would tie the score 3-3 as Damon Severson coming out of the penalty box, got in on a breakaway for his fifth goal of the season. It was a close game the rest away until the Bruins found a way to pull ahead as David Pastrnak drove his way to the net and put in his own rebound for his ninth goal of the season at the 14:11 mark. Minutes later, Brandon Carlo sealed the victory by firing a shot from the point that would get past MacKenzie Blackwood for his third of the season and gave the Bruins a 5-3 victory over the Devils.
