Blues Recap – That Outdoor Feeling

Due to the pause, the Blues only had 3 games since our last roundup.

Sunday, December 19, the Blues faced off against the Jets. This game was a bit disappointing, with the Jets taking it 4-2. The game remained scoreless into the second when the Jets took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Nikolaj Ehlers. Vladimir Tarasenko tied the game for the Blues, but Mark Scheifele gave the Jets a lead they would not relinquish. Paul Stastny added two in the third for the Jets with Niko Mikkola notching one for the Blues, but it was not enough as the Jets took home the victory.

Wednesday, December 29, the Blues took on Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. This game was basically over in the first period with the Blues jumping out to a 2-0 lead on goals by the young players, Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, with Vladimir Tarasenko assisting on both. Edmonton tied the game up with two goals in the second, but Tarasenko put home the game winner, with Saad adding on in the third to give the Blues a 4-2 victory.

Finally, on Saturday, January 1, the Blues faced the Minnesota Wild in the bitter cold for the Winter Classic. This was nothing short of a whitewashing. The temperature at the start of the game was negative 5.7 degrees, making it the coldest hockey game ever. The Blues jumped out to an early lead as David Perron scored his 8th of the year. The Wild got one back to take a 1-1 tie into the second. At this point, the Blues just exploded, scoring 5 in the second to put the game away. Jordan Kyrou got two goals and two assist in the period, with the others coming from Krug, Barbashev, and Tarasenko. Though the Wild added two in the third, it was not enough. The Blues always seem to come to play in the Winter Classic.

The Winter Classic always feels like more than just a hockey game – it’s an event, one the fans look forward to every year. With that, I don’t think a game highlights video would do it much justice, so for a real taste of the experience, I’d take a look at this picture:
