New Jersey Devils (9-8-4 22pts) @
Minnesota Wild (16-6-1 33pts)
Coming off of a loss the other night at home to the San Jose Sharks, the New Jersey Devils head out on the road to take on the Minnesota Wild. Things started out pretty even between the two teams until the 8:49 mark when Kirill Kaprizov scored his eighth goal of the year. Kaprizov fought off the Devils defense by himself and used his quick hands to chip the puck in for the opening goal. Less than three minutes later, Rem Pitlick got the puck passed to him off of a turnover, then faked out goalie MacKenzie Blackwood and then roofing the puck into a wide open net. Minnesota would take a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Kirill Kaprizov struck again early on in period two for his second goal of the game and ninth on the season. Kaprizov shot the puck from a tough angle that would hit Devils defenseman Damon Severson’s and bounce off his helmet and into the back of the net to make 3-0 in favor of the Minnesota Wild. Ryan Graves gave the Devils a quick response by scoring his second goal of the year as he drilled a thunderous shot past Wild goalie Kaapo Kahkonen to get his team on the scoreboard. Five moments later, Tomas Tatar scored his fifth of the year as he received a pass to put him in on a breakaway and for the goal to get the Devils within one goal. Former Devil, Dmitry Kulikov gave the Wild their two goal lead back as he put in the rebound shot from Ryan Hartman to beat goalie MacKenzie Blackwood for his second goal of the season at the 10:27 mark. Minnesota would have the 4-2 lead heading into period three.
In the third period, the Wild did a great job at locking things down and keeping the Devils at bay from having any chance of making a comeback. Ryan Hartman officially out the game away at the 16:05 mark as he snapped a shot past MacKenzie Blackwood for his thirteenth of the season and secure a 5-2 victory for Minnesota. New Jersey gets eighth back at it tomorrow night as they head north of the border to take on the Winnipeg Jets.
