Game Recap:
Tonight began the first of a two game road trip to the Sunshine State for the New Jersey Devils as they took on the Florida Panthers. Period one saw the Devils dictate most of the play offensively as they led in shots 22-13. Dougie Hamilton opened up the scoring for the Devils as he scored his fifth goal of the season by firing a shot from the circle that goes off the post and in goalie Spencer Knight. Carter Verhage tied the score for the Panthers with seven seconds left in the period as he wired a shot that would go off the post and in to beat Devils goalie MacKenzie Blackwood. 1-1 would be the score heading into the second period.
Period two saw the Florida Panthers completely taking over the rest of the game. Eetu Luostarinen and Jonathan Huberdeau scored back to back goals about a little over a minute apart to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead. Four minutes later saw Anthony Duclair expanding Florida’s lead to 4-1 off a bad turnover by the Devils and putting on nice moves to beat MacKenzie Blackwood. That goal against would be the end of the night for Blackwood as backup Jonathan Bernier came in relief to finish of this game.
The third and final period saw the Panthers lock the game down and preserve their lead and winning by a final score of 4-1 to take down the New Jersey Devils. The Devils are back in action on Saturday afternoon to take on the back to back defending Stanley Cup champions in the Tampa Bay Lightning.
