New Jersey Devils (6-3-2 14pts) vs Florida Panthers (10-2-1 21pts)
After being on the road on the West Coast for a week, the New Jersey Devils return home to host the league leading Florida Panthers. The first period was pretty even between the both teams especially in the shots department. However, the Panthers got on the board first as Sam Bennett wrapped the puck around the net, got his own rebound and put it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead for his fifth goal of the season. Later on in the period, Andreas Johnsson would continue his great start to the season by tying the score up 1-1 on the power play at the 15:46 mark for his fifth goal of the campaign. Johnsson would get a rebound to come his way and then buried the puck into the back of the net to beat Panthers goalie Spencer Knight. Two minutes later, Devils captain Nico Hischier would tip in a shot from Ty Smith to give New Jersey a 2-1 lead heading into period number two.
The beginning of the second period was very wild as we saw three goals within a minute and a half between both teams. Florida struck twice early on as Aleksandr Barkov & Owen Tippett scored the give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. However, that lead was very short-lived as Andreas Johnsson seconds later scored his second goal of the game and sixth of the season to tie the game up 3-3. Later on with under two minutes left in the second period, PK Subban would give the Devils the leads as he bombed a shot from the point that would deflect off a Panthers stick and past goalie Spencer Knight. Devils would lead the Panthers 4-3 heading into the third period.
New Jersey was able to extend their lead early on in the third period as they got back to back goals from Pavel Zacha (on the power play) and Ty Smith (off of a face off) to give the Devils a 6-3 lead. The Devils added an empty net goal later on from Jimmy Vesey to make the final score 7-3 as they defeated the Florida Panthers.
