Lightning v. Canadiens – Anderson’s Pair Give Habs Life

Tampa Bay Lightning v. Montreal Canadiens – Game 4
Tampa Leads Series 3-0

Game Recap:

Heading into Game 4 the Montreal Canadiens look to take one in front of their fans and to deny the Tampa Bay Lightning’s chance at doing the first sweep in a Stanley Cup Final since 1998. In the first period the Lightning would own the ice as they would control the first half of the period against the Habs. However, as the period went on the Habs would get more comfortable as Carey Price would make some key saves and it woupd be a nice pass from Nick Suzuki to Josh Anderson that would give the Canadiens the 1-0 and first lead in a game this series. After the goal would be scored the Bolts and Habs would take coincidental minors for some 4 on 4 play, and then the Habs would get called for a penalty to give the Bolts the first powerplay of the game, but Montreal was up to the task and would kill the penalty to end the period and keep their 1-0 lead.

In the second period the Habs would keep up the high tempo play that they displayed late in the first. However, penalties would hurt the Habs and their momentum. The Habs would get the first powerplay of the period, and would get some good chances, but Tampa would get back to back powerplays and while they didn’t score they did slowly swing the momentum. In the final three minutes of the period the Bolts would erase the one goal lead when Barclay Goodrow would score to tie the game.

Then in the third period it would be a fiesty one. Fireworks would explode less than eight minutes into the period when the Bolts third line, and a defense pair and Josh Anderson would all go to the box for roughing. While the six penalties were being served Alexander Romanov would score his first of the playoffs to retake the lead for the Habs, but it wouldn’t last long as Pat Maroon would redirect a Mathieu Joseph pass to tie the game at two and send the game to overtime for the first time this series. However, the Lightning would also carryover about three minutes of powerplay time due to a late double minor to Shea Weber for high sticking.

In the extra frame the Canadiens would do a spectacular job of killing off the remaining three minutes of Shea Weber’s double minor, and 57 seconds later it would be Josh Anderson with his second of the game to give the Habs the 3-2 overtime victory and force Game 5 in Tampa on Wednesday night.
