#1 Carolina Hurricanes v. #4 Nashville Predators – Game 6
Hurricanes Lead Series 3-2
Game Recap:
In Nashville the Predators will look to stay alive and use the home crowd to their advantage as the Carolina Hurricanes look to take the series here in game six. In the first period things would start quickly as we would see our first goal less than two minutes into the game as Nick Cousins would score to give the Preds the 1-0 lead, and shortly after Brock McGinn would score his third of the series to tie the game at one for the Canes. Seconds after the tying goal Andrei Svechnikov would take an ill-advised tripping penalty, but the Canes would be up to the task and kill the Preds powerplay opportunity. After the penalty would be killed, both teams would settle into the game, and it would remain tied a one heading into the first intermission.
Then in the second period the Predators would be all over the Hurricanes as Mikael Granlund would strike 73 seconds into the period to retake the lead for the Preds. After the goal Granlund would be called for tripping, but the Canes powerplay would be cut short as Dougie Hamilton would be called for Interference, and then Sebastian Aho would be called for Slashing to give the Preds the two man advantage which would see Ryan Johansen strike to grow the Preds lead to two. While the Preds were still surging, Matt Benning would get called for interference and give the Canes their second powerplay of the game, and this time they would strike as Sebastion Aho would redirect Hamilton’s point shot to get the Canes back within one. In the final two minutes of the period Brady Skjei would be called for cross checking, but the Canes were able to withstand the Predators attack to finish the period still down by one.
In the third period the Canes would unleash a storm on the offensive zone. First with a powerplay that they wouldn’t score on, but would help them build their momentum. Then in the second half of the period Dougie Hamilton would redirect a pass from Jaccob Slavin past Juuse Saros to tie the game at three for the Canes, who would also outshoot the Preds 16-5 in the third period to force overtime for the fourth consecutive game.
The 66 seconds into overtime Jaccob Slavin would call game as he would have his shot deflected by Sebastian Aho to score to give the Hurricanes the 4-3 victory to take the 4-2 series win to move on to the second round to face the Tampa Bay Lightning.
