#4 Nashville Predators v. #1 Carolina Hurricanes – Game 5
Series Tied 2-2
Game Recap:
Returning to Carolina for game five, the Hurricanes and Nashville Predators look to take the 3-2 series lead after Nashville won the last two games at home to tie the series at two. In the first period Yakov Trenin would open the scoring for the Preds after they couldn’t capitalize on the powerplay to take the 1-0 lead. Then a few minutes later on their first powerplay of the game it would be Martin Necas with a bullet of a shot to tie the game at one.
In the second period Trenin would strike again, this time 53 seconds into the period to give the Preds the lead back. The Canes would get a powerplay opportunity, and while they would get their chances on net, the Preds would do a good job of killing the penalty. Shortly after the penalty ended the Canes thought that they tied the game, but after a coach’s challenge for goalie interference, the goal would be overturned and the Preds would take the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Then in the third period Martin Necas would strike once again for the Canes to tie the game at two, and with the goal, it would send the game to overtime for the third consecutive game. However, we would only need 1:44 of overtime as Jordan Staal would strike to give the Hurricanes the 3-2 victory and 3-2 series lead.
