Dallas Stars v. Colorado Avalanche
DAL Leads 1-0
Game 1
Game Recap
Going out west the Avalanche look to bounce back to tie the series at one against the Stars. In the first period the Avalanche would start the game with a bigger jump in their step, and as a result would draw the powerplay and need only 14 seconds for Nathan MacKinnon to strike to give Colorado the 1-0 lead. The Avalanche would continue to mount pressure in the Dallas zone, but Anton Khudobin would stop 18 of the 19 shots he faced in the first period to keep the game at 1-0.
In the second period we’d see some more penalties be taken between the two teams, but when the Avalanche would get their first powerplay of the period, and third of the game, it would only last 10 seconds as Mikko Rantanen would score his fourth of the playoffs to give Colorado the two goal lead. However, the Avalanche would put themselves into some serious penalty trouble as they would go down two men to the Stars, and 11 seconds into the two man advantage Joe Pavelski would score to get the stars on the board. Then 43 seconds later Radek Faksa would score on the powerplay to tie the game at two. But the Stars wouldn’t be done there as they would have to kill of a two man advantage for the Avalanche, and with that momentum in their favor Alexander Radulov would score to give the Stars the 3-2 lead. Then in the final minute of the period Esa Lindell would jam the puck into the net, but it would require a lengthy review to confirm he did score to give the Stars the 4-2 lead.
Then in the third period the Stars would shut down the Avalanche’s powerplay once again, and then net the empty netter to take the 5-2 victory and the 2-0 series lead.
