New York Islanders v. Philadelphia Flyers
Game 1
Game Recap
In Toronto the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders kick start their Second Round series. In the first period the Islanders would swarm the Flyers in their own zone, and it would pay off as Andy Green would net his first goal of the postseason, and first playoff goal since 2010, to give the Islanders the 1-0 lead. The Flyers would generate a little offense, but the Islanders would just continue to swarm the Flyers in their own zone, but Carter Hart would be up to the task as he would make some spectacular saves to keep the Islanders with only one goal on the board. At the end of the first period the Islanders would out shoot the Flyers 15-4.
In the second period the Flyers offense would come alive as they would generate 15 shots to the Islanders 7, but Semyon Varlamov would shut the door on the Flyers to keep the 1-0 lead for New York.
Come the third period the Flyers would start the period with some good offensive zone time, but the Islanders would grind it out in the Flyers zone and Jean-Gabriel Pageau would score in the slot area to give the Islanders the 2-0 lead. However, the Islanders wouldn’t stop there as captain Anders Lee would net his fourth of the postseason, and with 7:39 left in regulation Devon Toews would hit the empty net, which why would you pull your goalie down three with around eight minutes left in the game I’ll never understand, to give the Islanders the 4-0 victory and the 1-0 series lead.
