Game Recap:

Tonight closes out the “Hudson River Rivalry” season series between the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers. Filip Chytil got the Rangers on the board first scoring his fourteenth goal of the season. The lead didn’t last as Kyle Palmieri tied the game up for the Devils 1-1 a minute later. Mika Zabanajad coming off his five goal game against the Capitals scored his thirty-ninth goal of the season to give his team the lead. After the first period, the Rangers would lead the Devils 2-1.

In the second period, the Devils really turned up the offense as they scored four unanswered goals to give them a 5-2 lead. Devils goal scorers were Kyle Palmieri, Fredrik Claesson, Travis Zajac, and John Hayden. The Devils completely outplayed the Rangers this period and took a 5-2 lead heading into the final period.

New Jersey kept up their dominance despite goal by Greg McKegg and Tony DeAngelo of the Rangers to get the game within two. Travis Zajac would score an empty net goal to seal the victory for the Devils as they defeated the Rangers 6-4. Both teams split the season series as tonight was the final matchup on the season between the two teams. The Devils are back in action Tuesday night as they return home to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
