  • The Calgary Flames announced that General Manager Brad Treliving received and accepted Bill Peters resignation as Head Coach. Geoff Ward will serve as the interim head coach.

 

Game Recaps:

New York Rangers v. Boston – 1p EST Start Time

In Boston the Bruins would take on the New York Rangers for an early Black Friday matinee. In the first period Pavel Buchnevich would score his fifth of the season to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Filip Chytil would strike for the Rangers to take the two goal lead, but late in the period Sean Kuraly would score for the Bruins to cut the deficit back to one. In the third period David Pastrnak would score to tie the game at two and send it to overtime. Then in overtime it would be David Krejci sealing the deal for the Bruins as they would complete the comeback and win 3-2.

 

Winnipeg Jets v. Anaheim Ducks – 4p EST Start Time

In Anaheim the Winnipeg Jets would ground the Ducks. The Jets would get second period goals from Neal Pionk (PPG) and Nikolaj Ehlers to take the 2-0 lead. Then in the third period Kyle Connor would score to secure the Jets the 3-0 shutout victory.

 

Los Angeles Kings v. San Jose Sharks – 4p EST Start Time

The San Jose Sharks would black out the Los Angeles Kings at home as they would get first period goals from Patrick Marleau and Marc-Eduoard Vlasic to take the 2-0 lead. Then in the second period Noah Gregor and Logan Couture to take a commanding 4-0 lead after 40 minutes. However, the Kings would get on the board with a Kyle Clifford tally, but the Sharks would hold on to win 4-1.

 

Colorado Avalanche v. Chicago Blackhawks – 4p EST Start Time

In Chicago the Colorado Avalanche would take down the Blackhawks. In the first period the Avalanche would get goals from Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan Graves, and Cale Makar (PPG) while the Blackhawks would get their lone goal from Zack Smith as the Avalanche took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. Then in the second period Valeri Nichushkin and JT Compher would tally for Colorado to take the 5-1 lead. Patrick Kane would score late in the second period, but the Avalanche would hold on to win 5-2.

 

Ottawa Senators v. Minnesota Wild – 4p EST Start Time

In Minnesota the Ottawa Senators would get the jump on the Wild as Nick Paul would score in the first period to take the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Brady Tkachuk would score his ninth of the season for the Senators, but the Wild would strike for three goals as Ryan Donato, Jared Spurgeon, and Zach Parise would all tally to take the 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Wild would maul the Senators for four goals as Luke Kunin, Ryan Hartman, Eric Staal (PPG), and Jason Zucker would all tally to take the 7-2 victory.

 

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Buffalo Sabres – 4p EST Start Time

In Buffalo the Sabres played host to the Toronto Maple Leafs and it would be the Leafs getting the first goal as John Tavares would strike for the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Tavares would score his second of the game for the Leafs, but the Sabres would get goals from Jeff Skinner, Jack Eichel, Casey Mittelstadt, and Victor Olofsson to take the 4-2 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Leafs would get goals from Dmytro Timashov and Kasperi Kapanen, but the Sabres would respond with goals from Jimmy Vesey and Jack Eichel (second of the game) to take the 6-4 victory.

 

Detroit Red Wings v. Philadelphia Flyers – 4p EST Start Time

In Philadelphia the Flyers would trample the Detroit Red Wings. Despite getting a first period tally from Robby Fabbri to get the Wings on the board, the Flyers would get goals from Scott Laughton and Shayne Gostisbehere (PPG) to take the 2-1 lead. Then in the second period Sean Couturier would score to give the Flyers the two goal lead, but in the third period Kevin Hayes, Oskar Lindbolm, and James van Riemsdyk would score to give the Flyers the 6-1 victory.

 

Tampa Bay Lightning v. Washington Capitals – 5p EST Start Time

The Washington Capitals completed the comeback as TJ Oshie would lead the way with three assists as they defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in overtime. TXHT Recap

 

Arizona Coyotes v. Vegas Golden Knights – 6p EST Start Time

In Vegas the Golden Knights and Arizona Coyotes would face off in a tightly contested matchup. After a scoreless first period the Knights would strike first on the powerplay with an Alex Tuch powerplay goal, but the Coyotes would respond with a Jakob Chychrun tally to tie the game at one. After a scoreless third period and extra five minutes of overtime, this game would require the shootout. In the shootout the Knights would secure the victory as Tuch would score on the last chance of the third round to secure the 2-1 victory.

 

Pittsburgh Penguins v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p EST Start Time

In Columbus the Blue Jackets would take on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and in the first period the Jackets would strike first with a Gustav Nyquist marker, but the Penguins would get on the board with a Jake Guentzel tally to tie the game at one. Then in the second period the Jackets would get goals from Nick Foligno (EVS and PPG) and Nyquist (second of the game, PPG) to take a 4-1 lead. In the third period Kris Letang would score for the Penguins, but Nyquist would cap off the hat trick as the Blue Jackets would go on to defeat the Penguins 5-2.

 

Nashville Predators v. Carolina Hurricanes – 730p EST Start Time

In Carolina the Nashville Predators would come to town to tame the Hurricanes. In the first period Rocco Grimaldi and Calle Jarnkrok would strike for the Predators to take the 2-0 lead. Then in the second period Austin Watson would score the third goal for the Predators who would hold on to defeat the Hurricanes 3-0.

 

St. Louis Blues v. Dallas Stars – 830p EST Start Time

In Dallas the Stars took on the St. Louis Blues, and in the first period it would be the Blues striking first as Colton Parayko would score his second of the season to take the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period the Stars would tie up the game at one with a Roope Hintz tally, but the Blues would respond with goals from Ryan O’Reilly and Ivan Barbashev to take the 3-1 victory.

  • Buffalo Sabres announced that forward Vladimir Sobotka underwent successful knee surgery, and will be out indefinitely.

 

  • The Sabres also announced the defenseman Rasmus Dahlin will be out indefinitely due to a concussion.

 

  • The Boston Bruins announced they have signed forward Charlie Coyle to a six year contract with an AAV of $5.25 million.

In the third period Victor Olofsson would score his ninth of the season for the Sabres, but Matthew Tkachuk would tie the game at two to send the game to overtime. Then in the extra frame Elias Lindholm would strike for the Flames to take the 3-2 victory.

In Ottawa the Senators would play host to the Boston Bruins, and after a scoreless 40 minutes the game would heat up in the third period. Thomas Chabot would score 41 seconds into the third for the Senators, but the Bruins would strike with goals from Brad Marchand and Zdeno Chara to take the 2-1 victory.

 

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p EST Start Time

In Detroit the Toronto Maple Leafs would ground the Red Wings. In the first period the Leafs would get goals from Travis Dermott, Tyson Barrie, and John Tavares to take the 3-0 lead. Then in the second period William Nylander would score, and Andreas Johnsson would score a pair of goals to give the Leafs the 6-0 victory over the Red Wings.

At Madison Square Garden the New York Rangers would explode for a three goal first period as Mika Zibanejad (PPG), Brendan Smith, and Adam Fox would score to give the Rangers the 3-0 lead. then in the second period the Carolina Hurricanes would get goals from Ryan Dzingel (PPG) and Warren Foegele, but it would not be enough as the Rangers would hold on to defeat the Hurricanes 3-2.

 

Vancouver Canucks v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

In Pittsburgh we would be treated to a goal fest between the Penguins and Vancouver Canucks. In the first period Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust (PPG) would strike for the Penguins, but JT Miller would score for the Canucks to cut the Penguins lead to one. Then in the second period the Canucks would get goals from Elias Pettersson, Jake Virtanen, and Andrew Gaudette to take a 4-2 lead in the second intermission. Then in the third period Miller and Gaudette would both score their second of the game for the Canucks, but the Penguins would explode with six goals as they would get two goals from Evgeni Malkin, Guentzel would score his second of the game, and Dominik Kahun, Zach Aston-Reese, and Kris Letang would all score to give the Penguins the 8-6 victory.

Then in the third period Matt Duchene would score to give the Predators the 3-2 lead, but with one second left in regulation Max Pacioretty would score to tie the game at three. Then in overtime Paul Stastny would score to give the Knights the 4-3 overtime victory.

In Arizona the Coyotes would get the first goal against the Anaheim Ducks as Christian Dvorak would strike on the powerplay for the 1-0 lead, but Brendan Guhle would tie the game at one only to have Dvorak score his second of the game to retake the lead for the Coyotes. Then in the second period Sam Steel would score for the Ducks to tie the game at two. Then in the third period Troy Terry would score to give the Ducks the lead, but 38 seconds later Alex Goligoski would score to tie the game at three and send the game to overtime. Then after a scoreless extra frame the shootout would be required, and it would be Christian Dvorak with the winner to give the Coyotes the 4-3 victory.

In Colorado the Edmonton Oilers would strike first against the Avalanche as Jujhar Khaira would get on the board to give the Oilers the 1-0 lead in the first period. Then in the second period the Avalanche would tie the game at one as Nazem Kadri would score his eighth of the season. then in the third period the Avalanche would score three more goals as Matt Nieto, Nathan MacKinnon, and Logan O’Connor would all score to give the Avalanche the 4-1 victory.

Then in the second period Jeff Carter would score on the powerplay to give the Kings the 2-1 lead, and in the third period Matt Roy would net his second of the season to grow the Kings lead to two and then Alex Iafallo would score his fifth of the season to give the Kings the 4-1 victory over the Islanders.

In overtime Torey Krug would score to complete the comeback as the Bruins downed the Wild 5-4.

In the first period the Canadiens would get two goals from Max Domi and a goal from Artturi Lehkonen to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Then in the second period Shea Weber would strike to grow the lead to four, but the Rangers would start to mount the comeback as Filip Chytil, Pavel Buchnevich, and Brendan Lemieux would all strike to cut the Canadiens lead to one. Then in the third period Lehkonen would get his second of the game to give the Canadiens the two goal lead, but Artemi Panarin, Lemieux’s second of the game while shorthanded, and a Jacob Trouba tally would complete the comeback as the Rangers would defeat the Canadiens 6-5.

In the first period both teams would trade goals as Roope Hintz would strike for the Stars, and Olli Maatta would score for the Blackhawks. Then after two scoreless periods and a scoreless overtime it would be goals from Joe Pavelski and Tyler Seguin in the shootout to secure the 2-1 win for the Stars.

Then in the third period the Oilers would get their two goal lead as McDavid would score his second of the game while on the powerplay, and secure the 4-2 victory for the Oilers.

Then in the third period Kirby Dach and Dylan Strome would score for the Blackhawks to take the 5-2 lead, but Nate Schmidt would score for Vegas late in regulation but it would be too little too late as the Blackhawks would win 5-3.

NHL Three Stars of the Week for Nov. 4th – 10th

Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of November 4th through 10th.

 

First Star – Anders Nilsson (G, Ottawa Senators)

  • In three games played for the Senators, Nilsson would stop 96 of 101 shots faced as he would go a perfect 3-0-0 with a 1.64 goals against average, and a .950 save percentage. Nilsson would make 32 saves against the New York Rangers on November 4th, then 26 saves against Los Angeles on November 7th, and 38 saves on November 9th against Carolina.

Second Star – Auston Matthews (C, Toronto Maple Leafs)

  • Matthews would compile 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points in four games played to lead all skaters for the week. On November 5th against Los Angeles Matthews would tally an assist and the game winning goal, then on November 7th score the game tying goal against Vegas. On November 9th Matthews would tally a pair of assist against Philadelphia, and then on November 10th would tally a career high 4 assists against Chicago.

Third Star – Cale Makar (D, Colorado Avalanche)

  • Makar would be tied for first in the League for defensemen as he would tally 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points in three games played. Makar would start off with an assist on November 5th against Dallas, then on November 7th Makar would score a goal and two assists for three points against Nashville, and would follow up with his second multi point game on November 9th against Columbus for his first career two goal game.

  • The Department of Player Safety has announced that on Monday, November 11th Columbus Blue Jackets forward Nick Foligno will have a hearing for elbowing Colorado Avalanche’s Pierre-Edouard Bellemare.

 

  • Per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the Washington Capitals have placed defenseman Tyler Lewington on waivers.

 

  • The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that Mitch Marner will miss a minimum of four weeks due to an ankle injury.

 

Game Recaps:

Florida Panthers v. New York Rangers – 1p EST Start Time

In New York the Rangers would take on the Florida Panthers in an afternoon matinee. In the first period the Panthers would take advantage over the Rangers after the Rangers would score first with Ryan Lindgren’s first career goal as they would get goals from Aleksander Barkov and Dominic Toninato to take the 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Panthers would get two more goals from Evgenii Dadonov and Frank Vatrano, but the Rangers would score four goals as Filip Chytil, Brady Skjei, Kaapo Kakko (PPG), and Chris Kreider (PPG) would score to give the Rangers the 5-4 lead. then in the third period the Panthers would force overtime with a Brian Boyle tally. Then in the shootout Vincent Trocheck would score the game winner to give the Panthers the 6-5 victory.

 

Dallas Stars v. Winnipeg Jets – 2p EST Start Time

In Winnipeg the Jets would play host to the Dallas Stars, and in the first period Patrik Laine would strike on the powerplay to give the Jets the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period the Stars would respond with goals from Mattias Janmark and Radek Faksa, but in the third period Andrew Copp would score for the Jets to force overtime. In overtime Mark Scheifele would score 21 seconds into the extra frame to win the game 3-2 for the Jets.

 

New Jersey Devils v. Vancouver Canucks – 4p EST Start Time

Vegas Golden Knights v. Detroit Red Wings – 5p EST Start Time

In Detroit the Red Wings would take on the Vegas Golden Knights. In the first period the Knights would strike first with a Jonathan Marchessault would score his fourth of the season, but before the first period could end the Wings would tie the game with an Andreas Athanasiou powerplay goal. In the second period Max Pacioretty would score to give the Knights the lead going into the second intermission. Then in the third period Madison Bowey would score his first of the season, then with 31 seconds left in the game Anthony Mantha would score his 11th of the season to give the Red Wings the 3-2 victory.

 

Philadelphia Flyers v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

In Boston the Bruins would face the Philadelphia Flyers, and in the first period the Flyers would fly high on the Bruins as they would get goals from Travis Konecny and Philippe Myers to take the 2-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period the Bruins would get goals from Danton Heinen, and Brad Marchand to tie the game at two and send the game to overtime. Then in the shootout Joel Farabee would score the lone goal to give the Flyers the 3-2 victory and their fourth straight win.

 

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p EST Start Time

In Chicago the Blackhawks would host the Toronto Maple Leafs for an Original Six matchup. In the first period the Blackhawks would light up the Leafs with four goals as Patrick Kane would score a pair of goals, and Kirby Dach and Jonathan Toews (PPG) would score, while the Leafs would get a lone goal from William Nylander. Then in the third period the Leafs would get goals from Nylander (second of the game), John Tavares (PPG) and Andreas Johnsson (PPG), but the Blackhawks would get a goal from Brandon Saad to secure the 5-4 victory.

 

Edmonton Oilers v. Anaheim Ducks – 9p EST Start Time

In Anaheim the Ducks would face the Edmonton Oilers, and after trading goals in the first four minutes of the game that would see Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Rickard Rakell both scoring, it would be Connor McDavid scoring the next tally to give the Oilers the 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Then in the second period Nugent-Hopkins would score his second of the game on the powerplay, and Zack Kassian would get on the board to grow the Oilers lead to three. Then in the third period the Ducks would get back on the board as Max Jones would score his first to cut the deficit to two. However, McDavid would respond with his second of the game to retake the three goal lead for the Oilers. McDavid would not be done there though as he would score once again on the powerplay to complete the hat trick and give the Oilers the 6-2 victory.
