Game Recap: New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers 11/30/19

New Jersey Devils (9-12-4 24pts) vs New York Rangers (13-9-3 29pts)

Game Recap:

This afternoon brings us part two of the Hudson River rivalry as the New York Rangers return to take on the New Jersey Devils. The Devils are coming off a huge win on Thanksgiving against the Montreal Canadiens north of the border as they won 6-4. Unfortunately for the Devils, their rookie superstar Jack Hughes is out of today’s lineup due to a lower body injury from blocking a shot in Montreal (day-to-day). Today, New Jersey is sporting their red & green “heritage” jerseys. In the first period, it would be the Rangers who would get the first goal as Kappo Kakko would thread the puck to defenseman Adam Fox towards the net as he would wrist it behind Devils goalie MacKenzie Blackwood. It would be the only goal of the period as the Rangers lead 1-0.

Period two featured no scoring from either side. It was a bit of a penalty filled period and each team had chances to score on the power play. New Jersey will continue on the power play to start the third as a high sticking call went to review and determined the Rangers committed a double minor for high sticking. After two periods, the New York Rangers maintain their 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately for the Devils, the long man advantage didn’t help as defenseman Sami Vatanen turned the puck over to Mika Zabanajad who would score a short handed goal to add to the Rangers lead. Moments later, the Devils were back on a long power play as Rangers forward Chris Kreisler was assessed a five minute major for boarding, fighting, and a game misconduct. Again, the long power play backfired for the Devils as they gave up another short handed goal. This time Jesper Fast was the goal scorer for the Rangers. Brady Skjei would add another goal with the net empty for extra measure to secure a Rangers win by a final score of 4-0. The Devils are back in action on Monday as they take a quick trip to upstate New York to take on the Buffalo Sabres.
