Welcome to the TXHT PHF Weekend Recap for the Weekend of Saturday, January 21st and Sunday, January 22nd, 2023, plus news coming out of the weekend.
Saturday, January 21st, 2023
Game #1 – Connecticut Whale v. Toronto Six
- In Toronto the Six would play host to the Connecticut whale, and in the first period both teams would record a pair of goals as Breanne Wilson-Bennett and Brittany Howard would strike for the Six while Emma Vlasic and Melissa Samoskevich would score for the Whale for the 2-2 tie. In the second period both Wilson-Bennett and Howard would both would net their second of the game while Tereza Vanisova would score a pair of goals to give the Six the 6-2 lead. Then in the third period Caitrin Lonergan and Emma Keenan would score for the Whale, but Shiann Darkangelo would score to give the Six the 7-4 victory over the Whale.
Game #2 – Boston Pride v. Montreal Force
- In Montreal the Boston Pride would take on the Force for the first time in Canada, and in the first period Loren Gabel would net a pair of goals to give the Pride the 2-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Gabel would net two more goals to complete the hat trick plus one, and Christina Putigna would score to give the Pride the 5-0 victory over the Force.
Game #3 – Metropolitan Riveters v. Buffalo Beauts
- In Buffalo the Beauts would play host to the Metropolitan Riveters, and in the first period Whitney Dove and Jessica Healey would score for the Beauts to take the 2-0 lead, but Minttu Tuominen would score to get the Rivs on the board and back within one. In the second period Courtney Maud would score to give the Beauts their two goal lead back. Then in the third period Claudia Kepler would strike to give the Beauts the 4-1 victory over the Riveters, and end their ten game losing streak.
Sunday, January 22nd, 2023
Game #1 – Boston Pride v. Montreal Force
- Back in Montreal for the second game of their weekend series as the Force would battle the Boston Pride, and after a scoreless first period Taylor Baker would score to give the Force the 1-0 lead. Then in the third period Loren Gabel would score for the Pride to tie the game at one to force overtime. In the extra frame Jade Downie-Landry would score to give the Force the 2-1 overtime victory over the Pride.
Game #2 – Metropolitan Riveters v. Buffalo Beauts
- In Buffalo the Beauts would look to continue with their strong play as they take on the Metropolitan Riveters, and in the first period Courtney Maud would strike for the Beauts to take the 1-0 lead. In the second period Mikyla Grant-Mentis would score for the Beauts, but a pair of goals from Kelly Babstock would tie the game at two for the Rivs. Then in the third period Madison Packer would net a pair of goals and Minttu Tuominen, Kendall Cornine, Reagan Rust, and Sarah Bujold would all score for the Riveters to defeat the Beauts in dominating fashion 8-2.
Game #3 – Connecticut Whale v. Toronto Six
- In Toronto the Six would take on the Connecticut Whale for the second game of their weekend series, and in the first period Alyssa Wohlfeiler would score for the Whale to take the 1-0 lead. In the second period Kennedy Marchment and Caitrin Lonergan would score to grow the Whale’s lead to three. Then in the third period Brittany Howard would score for the Six, but Marchment’s second of the game would give the Whale the 4-1 victory over Six.
News and Notes
- The Boston Pride announced on Friday that five of their games will be broadcasted on NESN.
- The PHF announced that they have suspended Boston Pride defender Olivia Zafuto.
- Zafuto would be suspended for two games after review by the Player Safety Committee.
- Zafuto would miss the weekend series against Montreal.

3 Stars of the Week
First Star – Loren Gabel (BOS)
- Loren Gabel would record five goals in two games played for the Boston Pride. Gabel’s weekend would start hot as fire as she would record four goals in a 5-0 victory over Montreal on Saturday. Then on Sunday Gabel would record Boston’s lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Montreal.
Second Star – Kennedy Marchment (CTW)
- Kennedy Marchment would record six goals and an assist for seven points in four games played for the Connecticut Whale. Marchement would record a goal on Tuesday night in a 3-0 victory over Buffalo, and then on Wednesday she would record a hat trick in a 7-3 victory over Buffalo. On Saturday she would record an an assist in a 7-4 loss to Toronto, but Marchment would record two goals on Sunday in a 4-1 victory over Montreal to close out her weekend.
Third Star – Brittany Howard (TOR)
- Brittany Howard would record three goals and two assists for five points in two games played for the Toronto Six. On Saturday Howard would open the weekend with two goals and two assists in a 7-4 victory over Connecticut. Then to close out the weekend Howard would record a goal in a 4-1 loss to Connecticut on Sunday.
