Welcome to the TXHT PHF Weekend Recap for the Weekend of Friday, January 6th through Sunday, January 8th, 2023, plus news coming out of the weekend.
Friday, January 6th, 2023
Game #1 – Boston Pride v. Connecticut Whale
- In Connecticut the Whale would play host to the Boston Pride to kick off 2023, and in the first period Christina Putigna would score to give the Pride the 1-0 lead. In the second period Taylor Wenczkowski, Elizabeth Giguere, and Jillian Dempsey would score to give the Pride the four goal lead, but goals from Taylor Girard and Justine Reyes would get the Whale on the board and back within two. Then in the third period Loren Gabel would score to give the Pride the 5-2 victory over the Whale.
Saturday, January 7th, 2023
Game #1 – Toronto Six v. Montreal Force
- In Montreal it would be an all Canadian battle as the Force would play host to the Toronto Six, and in the first period Alexandra Labelle would score to give the Force the 1-0 lead. In the second period Kati Tabin and Michela Cava would score to give the Six the 2-1 lead, but Brooke Stacey would score to tie the game at two for the Force. Then after a scoreless third period and five minutes of overtime it would be Cava in the shootout to give the Six the 3-2 victory over the Force.
Game #2 – Boston Pride v. Metropolitan Riveters
- In New Jersey the Metropolitan Riveters would play host to the Boston Pride, and in the first period Kali Flanagan and Jillian Dempsey would score to give the Pride the 2-0 lead. In the second period Elizabeth Giguere and Kayla Friesen would score to grow the Pride’s lead to four. Then in the third period Kennedy Ganser would score for the Rivs, but it would be too little too late as the Pride would defeat the Riveters 4-1.
Game #3 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Buffalo Beauts
- In Buffalo for Hockey Fights Cancer night the Beauts would play host to the Minnesota Whitecaps, and in the first period Mikyla Grant-Mentis would open the scoring for the Beauts, but Sidney Morin would strike to tie the game at one for the Whitecaps. In the second period Natalie Snodgrass would score to give the Whitecaps the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period Sydney Brodt would score a pair of goals to give the Whitecaps the 4-1 victory over the Beauts.
Sunday, January 8th, 2023
Game #1 – Connecticut Whale v. Metropolitan Riveters
- In New Jersey the the Metropolitan Riveters would play host to the Connecticut Whale, and in the first period Kennedy Marchment, Taylor Girard, and Caitrin Lonergan would score to give the Whale the 3-0 lead. In the second period Emma Keenan would score to grow the Whale’s lead to four. Then in the third period Katerina Mrazova would score a pair of goals to give the Whale the 6-0 victory over the Riveters. Meeri Raisanen would stop all 23 shots faced for the shutout.

Game #2 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Buffalo Beauts
- Back in Buffalo the Beauts would host the Minnesota Whitecaps for thee second game of their weekend series, and in the first period Grace Klienbach would score for the Beauts, but goals from Brooke Madsen, Sydney Brodt, and Sidney Morin would give the Whitecaps the 3-1 lead. In the second period Claudia Kepler would strike for the Beauts, but goals from Jonna Albers and Brittyn Fleming would put the Whitecaps ahead by three. Then in the third period Courtney Maud would score for the Beauts, but it would not be enough as the Whitecaps would defeat the Beauts 5-3 to sweep the weekend series.
Game #3 – Toronto Six v. Montreal Force
- In Montreal for the final game of their weekend series the Force would battle the Toronto Six, and in the first period Emma Woods would score to give the Six the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Alexandra Labelle and Ann-Sophie Bettez would score for the Force, but a goal from Emma Greco and Woods’ second of the game would give the Six the 3-2 victory over the Force.
News and Notes
- The PHF announced Toronto Six forward Brittany Howard as the Player of the Month for December.
- In four games played for the Six, Howard would record five goals and three assists for eight points.

3 Stars of the Week
First Star – Taylor Girard (CTW)
- Taylor Girard would record two goals and three assists in two games played for the Connecticut Whale, that would also see her extend her point scoring streak to eight games. On Friday Girard would score a shorthanded tally in a 5-2 loss to Boston. Then on Sunday in a 6-0 victory over Metropolitan, Girard would record a goal and three assists for the Whale.
Second Star – Loren Gabel (BOS)
- Loren Gabel would record a goal and four assists for a five point weekend for the Boston Pride. Gabel would have a goal and two assists in a 5-2 victory over Connecticut on Friday. Then on Saturday she would record two more assists in a 4-1 victory over Metropolitan.
Third Star – Elaine Chuli (TOR)
- For the Toronto Six Elaine Chuli would defeat the Montreal Force in the first ever Battle of Canada weekend series in the PHF. On Saturday Chuli would make 35 saves in a 3-2 shootout victory, and then on Sunday she would make 44 saves, a career high, in another 3-2 victory.
