- Tampa Bay Lightning v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p ET
- In Columbus the Blue Jackets would play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and in the first period Johnny Gaudreau would net his first career goal as a Blue Jacket and Gustav Nyquist would score for the Jackets, but goals from Corey Perry, Steven Stamkos, and Ross Colton would give the Lightning the 3-2 lead. In the second period Cal Foote would score his first of the season to grow the Bolts lead to two. Then in the third period Stamkos would net his second of the game to give the Lightning the 5-2 victory over the Blue Jackets.

- Montreal Canadiens v. Detroit Red Wings – 730p ET
- In Detroit the Red Wings would host their Original Six rival Montreal Canadiens for their home opener, and after a scoreless 40 minutes of action Elmer Soderblom would record his first career goal to give the Red Wings the 1-0 lead, and then Michael Rasmussen and Olli Maatta would score to give the Red Wings the 3-0 victory over the Canadiens.

- New York Rangers v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p ET
- Up north the Winnipeg Jets would hold their home opener as they would host the New York Rangers, and in the first period Mark Scheifele would strike for his first of the season to give the Jets the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Dryden Hunt would net his first of the season to tie the game at one for the Rangers, but Sam Gagner would net his first as a Jet, Scheifele would net his second of the game, and Kyle Connor would score his first of the season to give the Jets the 4-1 victory over the Rangers.

- Carolina Hurricanes v. San Jose Sharks – 1030p ET
- In his first game back to San Jose since being traded during the offseason, Brent Burns and the Carolina Hurricanes came to town to take on the Sharks, and in the first period Evgeny Svechnikov would score his first of the season to give the Sharks the 1-0 lead. In the second period Martin Neas would strike in the final thirty seconds of the period to tie the game at one for the Canes. Then late in the third period Sebastian Aho would strike to give the Hurricanes the 2-1 victory over the Sharks.
