- The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have hired John Tortorella as their new head coach.
- Tortorella becomes the 13rd coach in Flyers franchise history.
- Tortorella last coached for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and has also coached the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, and Tampa Bay Lightning.
- Tortorella won the Stanley Cup in 2004 with Tampa Bay, and is a two-time Jack Adams Award winner.
