Saves are made on both sides of the ice, but Boston has the shots advantage halfway through the period. It looks as if the Hurricanes get on the board at 12:56 but the goal is waved off for goaltender interference, with no penalty called. At 13:53, Carolina gets their first power play of the contest when Erik Haula heads to the box on a holding penalty but Carolina would go on to get zero shots off during the extra man advantage. Then, at the 16:42 mark, the Hurricanes get their second power play of the game when Patrice Bergeron heads to the penalty box on a tripping call. The first period comes to an end with no score.
In the second period, both teams are able to get shots off but no goals are scored in the first four minutes of the contest. Carolina then closes the door on the contest when Vincent Trocheck scores his first of the postseason and then Andrei Svechnikov scores an empty net goal. his first goal of the postseason, to give Carolina the 5-1 lead and win.
