Game Recap:
With another regular season ending in disappointment, the New Jersey Devils were look to end it on a positive note as they faced off against the Detroit Red Wings. Unfortunately things didn’t end as well as the Devils hoped it would. Michael Rasmussen got Detroit up early just sixty-eight seconds into the game ripping a shot from the slot to make it 1-0. Later on in the period, Dawson Mercer was able to slip a backhander in for his seventeenth goal of the season to tie the score 1-1 and that’s what it was heading into the intermission.
Moritz Seider kept up his fantastic rookie season by scoring his seventh goal and fiftieth point of the season at the 6:30 mark of period two. We saw the Devils even things up at the 15:38 mark as Nolan Foote tipped in a Dougie Hamilton shot to tie the game. That was the rookie’s third goal of the season and it would be tied 2-2 after two periods.
Detroit got another early period opening goal thanks to Joe Veleno to regain the lead just fifty-four seconds into the third period. Fabian Zetterlund who’s been hot as of late, scored his third of the season to even the score back up at three a piece. However, Pius Suter would help out the Red Wings back on top as his shot would just trickle over the goal line. Things would stay quietly offensively until the Devils made a last ditch effort to tie the score however, the Red Wings got an empty net goal from Tyler Bertuzzi for his thirtieth goal of the season and seal the victory for Detroit by a final score of 5-3.
