NHL News and Notes from Thursday, April 21st, 2022
News
- The NHL announced the 2022 Global Series.
- The San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators will faceoff against each other to open the regular season in Prague, Czech Republic on October 7th and 8th.
- The Predators will also face SC Bern in Switzerland on October 3rd, and the Sharks will take on Eisbaren Berlin in Germany on October 4th. Both being preseason games.
- On November 4th and 5th the Columbus Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche will faceoff in Tampere, Finland for the Global Series.

Game Recaps
- Philadelphia Flyers v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p ET
- In Montreal the Canadiens would play host to the the Philadelphia Flyers, and in the first period Mike Hoffman would score for the Habs, but tallies from James van Riemsdyk and Ivan Provorov would give the Flyers the 2-1 lead. In the second period Jake Evans would score for the Habs, but Oskar Lindblom and Travis Konecny would score to give the Flyers the 4-2 lead. Then in the third period Cole Caufield would score for the Habs, but Morgan Frost would score and van Riemsdyk would net his second of the game to give the Flyers the 6-3 victory over the Canadiens.
- Detroit Red Wings v. Florida Panthers – 7p ET
- In Florida the Panthers would host the Detroit Red Wings, and in the first period Sam Gagner would score for the Wings, but goals from Noel Acciari, Aleksander Barkov, and Mason Marchment would give the Panthers the 3-1 lead. In the second period Tyler Bertuzzi would strike for the Wings, but MacKenzie Weegar would score to keep the Panthers ahead by two. Then in the third period Sam Reinhart would score to give the Panthers the 5-2 victory over the Red Wings.
- Buffalo Sabres v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET
- In New Jersey the Devils would host the Buffalo Sabres, and after a scoreless first period Jesper Boqvist would strike for the Devils, but goals by Kyle Okposo, Alex Tuch, and Rasmus Dahlin would give the Sabres the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period Nikita Okhotiuk would score for the Devils, but Owen Power’s first career NHL goal and Jeff Skinner would score to give the Sabres the 5-2 victory over the Devils.

- Boston Bruins v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET
- In Pittsburgh the Penguins would take on the Boston Bruins, and in the first period Jake Guentzel would score to give the Pens the 1-0 lead. In the second period Jason Zucker would score and Guentzel would net his second of the game to give the Pens the three goal lead. then in the third period Guentzel would complete the hat trick to give the Penguins the 4-0
- Winnipeg Jets v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p ET
- In Carolina the Hurricanes would face off with the Winnipeg Jets, and in the first period Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois would score for the Jets to take the 2-0 lead. In the second period Teuvo Teravainen would score to get the Canes on the board. Then in the third period Jaccob Slavin, Seth Jarvis, and Jordan Staal would score to give the Hurricanes the 4-2 victory over the Jets.
- New York Rangers v. New York Islanders – 730p ET
- On Long Island it would be the battle of New York as the Islanders would host the Rangers, and in the first period Andrew Copp would net the natural hat trick to give the Rangers the 3-0 lead. In the second period Brock Nelson would score for the Isles, but goals by Chris Kreider and Ryan Strome would keep the Rangers ahead by four. Then in the third period Nelson would net his second of the game and Josh Bailey would score for the Isles, but Ryan Reaves would score to give the Rangers the 6-3 victory over the Islanders.
- Vancouver Canucks v. Minnesota Wild – 8p ET
- In Minnesota the Wild would battle the Vancouver Canucks, and after a scoreless first period Kevin Fiala, Jared Spurgeon, and Mats Zuccarello would score for the Wild, but a pair of goals from Elias Pettersson and a tally from Matthew Highmore would give us a 3-3 tie. Then in the third period Fiala would net his second of the game and Kirill Kaprizov and Ryan Hartman would score to give the Wild the 6-3 victory over the Canucks.
- Toronto Maple Leafs v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 8p ET
- In Tampa Bay in what could be a first round preview the Lightning would play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and after a scoreless first period Alex Killorn, Ross Colton, Steven Stamkos, and Nikita Kucherov would score to give the Bolts the 4-0 lead. Then in the third period Ilya Mikheyev would score for the Leafs, but Ondrej Palat, Killorn, Colton, and Pat Maroon would score to give the Lightning the 8-1 victory over the Maple Leafs.
- Dallas Stars v. Calgary Flames – 9p ET
- In Calgary the Flames would take on the Dallas Stars, and after a scoreless 30 minutes of hockey Matthew Tkachuk would score to give the Flames the 1-0 lead, but Jason Robertson would score to tie the game at one for the Stars. In the third, Calgary takes the 2-1 lead when Noah Hanifin scores his ninth but then the Stars tie it up when Luke Glendening scores his ninth. Calgary then takes the lead for good when Christopher Tanev scores his sixth and then Andrew Mangiapane scores his 35th as the Flames double up the Stars 4-2.
- Chicago Blackhawks v. Los Angeles Kings – 1030p ET
- In Hollywood, the Blackhawks look to bring some Windy City luck and knock the crowns off of the Kings and in the first period, Los Angeles takes the 1-0 lead when Phillip Danault scores his 26th of the year. In the second, the Kings then take the 2-0 lead when Anze Kopitar nets his 19th of the year but then the Blackhawks get on the board when Patrick Kane nets his 26th of the year. In the third, the Kings get a pair of goals when Andreas Athanasiou scores his 10th and then Trevor Moore scores his 16th to give the Kings the 4-1 win over the Blackhawks.
- St. Louis Blues v. San Jose Sharks – 1030p ET
- In San Jose the Sharks would look to black out the St. Louis Blues, and in the first period Noah Gregor would score for the Sharks and Dakota Joshua would score for the Blues for the 1-1 tie. In the second, St. Louis takes the 2-1 lead when Robert Thomas scores his 20th of the year. In the third, Pavel Buchnevich scores his 29th to give the Blues the 3-1 win over the Sharks.
