New Jersey Devils (27-42-7 61pts) @
Vegas Golden Knights (40-31-5 87pts)
Game Recap:
Tonight concludes the five game Western Conference road trip for the New Jersey Devils who will close it out against the Vegas Golden Knights. It would be evenly matched throughout the first period as both teams had plenty of chances to go around here. However, the Devils got on the board first thanks to Nathan Bastian’s twelfth goal of the season. Bastian cleaned up a rebound shot from Michael McLeod to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead that would carry over to the second period.
Vegas was dominant in the second period and even had a 16-6 shots advantage. It was surprising they didn’t score a ton of goals but they were able to get one. Keegan Kolesar fired a shot that would hit Devils defenseman PK Subban’s skate that would go into the back of the net for his seventh of the season. The score would be tied 1-1 after two periods.
Period three would be a favorable one for the New Jersey Devils. They were able to strike twice with goals coming from Andreas Johnsson and Jesper Boqvist that were only a few minutes apart. Johnsson was able to corral the puck during a net front scramble and put the puck in for his thirteenth goal of the season. Boqvist was able to dangle around a defender and able to get a shot off to beat Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner for his ninth goal of the year to make it 3-1 in favor of the Devils. Except you couldn’t quite count out the Golden Knights just yet. Chandler Stephenson made things interesting late during a scramble as he put the puck in from the slot to get the score within one goal. Unfortunately for Vegas, time ran out and the New Jersey Devils would escape with a 3-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. Next time we see the Devils will be on Thursday night as they return home to play the Buffalo Sabres.
