Currently on a 0-3-1 losing streak, the New Jersey Devils head to “Big D” with hopes of winning an afternoon matchup against the Dallas Stars. The first period was very quiet with neither team able to get any goals put up on the scoreboard. Each team had a chance on the power play but neither were able to capitalize with the man advantage. The game would be scoreless after the first period.
The second period was also relatively quiet until Ryan Suter was able to score a power play goal at the 13:21 mark. Suter’s goal would be a milestone one as he scored his 100th NHL goal as he netted a wrist shot the would get through traffic and beat Devils goaltender Nico Daws to give the Dallas Stars a 1-0 lead that they’d take into the third period.
New Jersey was able to turn up their game and took it to the Stars in the third period as they scored three unanswered goals. Ty Smith got the scoring started as he wristed we a shot that would beat goalie Jake Oettinger for his fifth goal of the season. Late in the third period at the 18:49 mark, Devils captain Nico Hischier would shift his way around the net and take it to the front of the net and score his twentieth of the season to give his team their first lead of the game. Ten seconds later saw Pavel Zacha give the Devils an insurance goal as he scored on a 2 on 1 thanks to a bad Stars defensive breakdown and scored off a give and go with Jesper Boqvist for his fourteenth goal of the season. The New Jersey Devils would win by a final score of 3-1 over the Dallas Stars. Next time we see the Devils in action will be on Tuesday night as they shift further west to take on the Arizona Coyotes.
