New Jersey Devils (24-40-6 54pts) vs
New York Rangers (45-20-6 96pts)
Game Recap:
Coming off two embarrassing losses in a row, the New Jersey Devils look to get back to winning tonight against their Hudson River rivals in the New York Rangers. The Rangers got off to a great start but, the Devils got a chance they were able to capitalize on early. Yegor Sharangovich intercepted a pass near the blue line and took the puck in on a little breakaway and lifted the puck on his backhand to beat goalie Alexander Georgiev for an early 1-0 lead and scoring his twentieth goal of the season. New York would tie the game under five minutes later on the power play thanks to a nice passing play to the bumper position where Ryan Strome would bury the pass from Chris Kreider into the back of the net. Speaking of Kreider, he would give the Rangers the lead on another power play as he tipped in an Artemi Panarin pass for his forty-seventh goal of the season. After the first period, the Rangers would lead the Devils 2-1.
Period two was very quiet as neither team scored and the Devils limiting the Rangers to only a single shot on goal in the middle frame. New Jersey would be would be without forwards Yegor Sharangovich and Jimmy Vesey the rest of the way. The Rangers wouod carry the 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
Justin Braun extended the Rangers lead to 3-1 early on in period three as he fired a slap shot from the point to beat Devils goalie Nico Daws for his sixth goal of the season. Braun’s goal would provide the Rangers the insurance they needed and went into win by a final score of 3-1. New Jersey returns to action on Thursday night as they welcome in the Montreal Canadiens into town.
