New Jersey Devils (24-38-6 54pts)
Florida Panthers (47-15-6 100pts)
Game Recap:
What started out as a very good effort for the New Jersey Devils, turned into a very horrible one especially in the third period as they hosted the Florida Panthers in an afternoon matinee matchup. The Devils got off to a great start thanks to two unassisted goals seventeen seconds apart thanks to Yegor Sharangovich and Jack Hughes. About five minutes later, Ben Chiarot got the Panthers on the board as he wried a shot through traffic for the goal. After the goal by Chiarot, the Devils were able to hold the Florida Panthers off the board the rest of the first period and had a 2-1 lead heading into period two.
The second period saw the New Jersey Devils strike four times in the middle frame. Yegor Sharangovich and Janne Kuokonnen each scored early on in the period and forty-five seconds apart to increase the lead to a three goal cushion. However, Radio Gudas got a strange bounce to go in over Devils goal Andrew Hammond to cut the deficit to two goals. Moments later, the hats were thrown onto the ice as Yegor Sharngovich completed the hat trick for his third goal of the game and nineteenth of the season. Andreas Johnsson joined in on the scoring parade as he scored his twelfth goal of the season as he received a backhand pass from Janne Kuokonnen to the slot and then buried the shot into the back of the net to make it 6-2 in favor of the Devils heading into the third period.
Period three didn’t go very well for the Devils at all, in fact it was an absolute nightmare. After pulling starting goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and replacing him with backup Spencer Knight, the Florida Panthers were able to storm their way back to tie the game 6-6 with four unanswered goals. Brandon Montour, Gustav Forsling, and two extra attacker goals from Aleksander Barkov was what it took to tie the game and force overtime with the New Jersey Devils. In overtime, Gustav Forsling would complete the amazing comeback by scoring his second goal of the game as he ripped a shot from the high slot to beat goalie Andrew Hammond and be the hero for the Florida Panthers as they win in a wild game 7-6 over the New Jersey Devils. Speaking of the Devils, they have the chance to regroup and hopefully redeem themselves as they take on the New York Islanders at home tomorrow night.
