New Jersey Devils (22-35-5 49pts)
Edmonton Oilers (35-23-4 74pts)
Game Recap:
Looking to get finally get a win in Western Canada, the New Jersey Devils hope to get one in the road trip finale as they take on the high scoring Edmonton Oilers. It wouldn’t take long for the Oilers to score as Leon Draisatl was able to kick the puck to his stick and buried a wicked writer past Devils goal Jon Gillies for his forty-first goal of the season to give his team an early advantage at the 1:11 mark. Moments later, Jesper Bratt continues to keep up his very strong season by scoring his twentieth goal of the season which is a career best for the young Swede as he put one in on a breakaway to tie the score 1-1. That would be the score as we move onto the middle frame.
Period two was relatively quiet for the most part as both teams traded chances but weren’t able to get any pucks in the back of the net until late in the second period as Evander Kane scored his eleventh goal of the season. Kane’s goal had to be reviewed as it wasn’t sure on the wrap around attempt if the puck had completely crossed the goal line and it was determined to be a good goal. The Edmonton Oilers would take a 2-1 lead into the third period.
New Jersey had a very good little over three minutes to start the period three as they were bale to strike twice and gain their first lead of the day 3-2. Devils goals were scored by Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier to put their team out in front. However about five minutes later, the game got away from the New Jersey Devils and the Edmonton Oilers began their offensive surge thanks to Tyson Barrie who tied the game at three a piece. Barrie from a sharp angle was about to roof a shot over the goaltender for his fifth goal of the season. Evander Kane put the Oilers on top for good on the power play, while Zach Hyman deflected a puck in and Connor McDavid who scored an empty netter, gave their team the insurance goals they needed to seal the victory by a final score of 6-3. It was not a good ending for the Devils as the lost all three game this week in Western Canada. Next time we see the Devils will be on Tuesday night when they take on their Hudson River rivals in the New York Rangers back at home in New Jersey at the Prudential Center.
