Canadiens Weekly – Short Falls

Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, it is time once again to take a look at the Montreal Canadiens games from the prior week.

Montreal would go 0-1-1 on the week with the two games scheduled.

Wednesday, March 9th, 2022: Montreal Canadiens at Vancouver Canucks

Game Recap: In Vancouver, the Canucks play host to the Canadiens and in the first Montreal takes the 1-0 lead after Artturi Lehkonen nets his 12th of the year but then the Canucks tie it up when Travis Hamonic nets his third of the year. In the second, Brock Boeser nets his 17th of tyear to give Vancouver the 2-1 lead but then the Habs tie it up after Lehkonen scores his second of the night, In the third, Vancouver gets a pair of goals when J.T. Miller scores his 23rd of the night and then Elias Pettersson scores his 18th of the year. Montreal comes within a goal after Rem Pitlick strikes for his 11th of the year but then the Canucks seal the win after Bo Horvat nets hits the empty net to give the Canucks the 5-3 win over the Canadiens.

Areas to Focus On Going Into Next Contest: Perform better on the penalty kill. While Vancouver did go 2 for 4 on the power play, the goals there should not have been allowed as easily as they were.

Saturday, March 12th, 2022: Seattle Kraken at Montreal Canadiens

Game Recap: In Montreal, the Canadiens host the Kraken for the first time and in the first period, Seattle takes the 1-0 lead when Yanni Gourde nets his 13th of the year and the Montreal ties it up after Michael Pezzetta scores his fifth of the year. Then, Ryan Donato scores his 13th to give the Krakeb the 2-1 lead. In the second, Seattle takes the two goal lead when Jared McCann scores his 23rd of the year. In the third, Montreal comes within a goal when Alexander Romanov nets his third and then the Habs tie it up when Nick Suzuki scores his 14th. After a scoreless overtime, Seattle wins the game in the seventh round of the shootout when Marcus Johannson scores as the Kraken escape with the 4-3 win.

Areas to Focus On Going Into Next Contest: Power plays. The Habs were given six chances to score and did not take advantage.
