Devils Lose Close One at Lightning

Game Recap:

After completing a four game home stand, the New Jersey Devils begin a three game road trip. Tonight’s first game of the trip is a matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Period one belonged to the Devils as they played very well and got the lead first thanks to a Damon Severson goal on the power plays Severson fired a shot from the point to beat goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy for his sixth goal of the season. New Jersey would own a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The second period saw the Lightning flex their muscles as they took over and showed why they’re the current back to back Stanley Cup champions. Alex Killorn would put in a rebound shot on the power play, and Matthieu Joseph would score a short handed goal to give the Lightning a 2-1 lead heading into the third and final period.

At the midpoint of the third period, Jack Hughes tied the score for New Jersey. Hughes would grab the rebound off the end boards and put it into the back of the net for his eleventh goal of the campaign. Anthony Cirelli showed why he’s an important player for Tampa Bay as he scored the game winner shortly after the Hughes tying goal to give the Lightning the lead and the victory by a final score of 3-2. Next time we see the Devils back in action, they will take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.
