Whale Sweep Weekend Series Against The Beauts

Game 2 of the weekend series between the Buffalo Beauts and the Connecticut Whale took place this afternoon. In the first game, the Whale came out on top by a final score of 3-1. Here is how the two teams would line up for Game 2:

It was the first career PHF start for Beauts goalie Lovisa Berndtsson. (Congratulations to her!)

It would take a while, but once again, it would be the visiting Whale who would get on the board first. While on the power play, Emma Vlasic at the point would pass the puck to Shannon Turner down low. She would skate in, below the right circle, and would pass the puck to the middle, and it would find Janine Weber’s stick and get to the back of the net. It would be the first goal of the season for Weber. The period would end with the Whale in the lead, 1-0.

In the second period, the Whale would double their lead in the game. A great forecheck by the Whale would see the Beauts defender turn it over to Janine Weber. She would pass the puck to the front of the net, finding Catherine Crawley, who stashed the puck home in the net. It would be Crawley’s third goal of the season, and Weber’s second point of the game. The Whale would take a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.

In the third period, the Beauts would get on the board and cut the Whale lead in half. Autumn MacDougall would skate with the puck up the left side of the ice. She would feed the puck to the slot that would find the stick of Dominique Kremer, who shot it over the sprawling Abbie Ives. It would be Kremer’s third goal of the season.

3 minutes later, the Whale would strike again and re-establish their 2 goal lead. Taylor Girard would feed the puck to Shannon Turner at the point. She skated to the middle and launched a shot towards the net. The puck would take a deflection in front by Kennedy Marchment and the puck would find the back of the net. For Turner, it would be her second point of the game. For Marchment, it would be her league leading sixth goal of the season.

The Whale would hold on to win by a final score of 3-1, as Connecticut sweeps the weekend series against the Beauts.

Lovisa Berndtsson in her PHF debut faced 43 Whale shots, making 40 saves; while Abbie Ives faced 20 Beauts shots, making 19 saves.

Next Game:

The next game for the Buffalo Beauts will be on January 8th for a weekend series against the Boston Pride. For the Connecticut Whale, they won’t be back for a game until January 15th for a weekend series matchup against the Metropolitan Riveters.
